PACT is currently represented by DDR, using outdated vehicles with old ammo, meanwhile NATO is currently represented by US, using flagman-tier weapons and ammo of it's time.
This will change in the future once USSR gets added with better vehicles and ammo.
While we do not specifically balance vehicle or change their specifications to aritificially alter the potency of any given vehicle or side, due to what vehicles were added and in what order, there is now indeed a technological gap between what PACT and NATO uses, which will naturally be smoothen once proper soviet tech will be implemented.
I can suggest taking advantageous positions where you are well covered from enemy fire, having an advantage of the first shot is also a nice thing which can sometimes be a matter of life and death, try targeting sides or rear of M1, since cracking frontal armor is rather difficult. A good strategy is to target the turret ammo stowage.
1. You have to push to the hill and there are M1 tanks on the hill so they have advantage. You have to push slowly (your wingman AI prefer racing style though)
2. Likely the enemy's position changes every time you restart mission so make sure you scan all the angles
3. Enemy is very dumb if you are on the side. AI scans frontal angles only
4. Make critical hits like this is can destroy M1 tank in 1 hit (if you can't destroy the rack's armor, enemy tank is able to do 1 shot https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2867224496
5. You might have to do hull down in a very close range which is pain in the arse: very thin terrain can stop your shell and it's not easy to shoot enemy without exposing yourself.
6. There's a known issue that enemy AI is able to see you through trees (idk if it's fixed) so becareful.
7. You can flip your tank if you hit tree or other objects when drive so it's easier to choose open place in this patch.
You will experience the answer there. If you like it, check out Armored Brigade next.
It's literally Quality vs. Quantity.
- Thermal vision in western tanks should be much worse than currently. They should have a much worse resolution. At the same time, the tanks currently shine an awful lot. Realistically, if the tank is standing still, its thermal footprint is not that big, let alone in the summer when the game takes place. How it is currently possible to see the enemy through thermal imaging is impossible to see even with the best thermal imaging today.
- The voice of the East German crews is missing. In American tanks, as soon as the enemy is in sight somewhere, the commander draws attention to it and guides the gunner there. Not with East German tanks, and you have to rely only on yourself.
- Missing smoke grenades. In the event that slaughter is unavoidable, smoke grenades can realistically be used and retreated. However, this function is missing here
I think these 3 things will bring more balance between the two sides. Of course, the Americans will still have the upper hand.
Tanks are a just piece on the battlefield and their development is tied to how they are intended to be used in a future conflict.
I tried the demo back in august and both factions functioned similarly so i guess this nuance is lost there.
So wouldn't it be more sensible to release the early acess with 2 more balanced factions (NATO vs. Soviets) and add Germans later? Now we are stuck with limited gameplay possibilities as playing Pact is frustrating as hell and it might even put some people away.
AI doesnt seem to be able to cope with you getting past their frontal arc. The other tank and apc didnt seem to notice their compatriot go up in flames.
Even then at 500m the M1 still needs more than one shot. The satisfaction of putting a heat round through the rear ramp of the M113 was fun.
Overall I like it. Throwback to the old Tank Platoon of circa 2000
