But in a nutshell, Unity was / is going to charge a fee for every install of games / software that uses the engine, and at first they said they were also going to do this retroactively, that is for every game that had already been sold over the years.
This would mean that game developers and publishers and such would have to pay a good chunk of money for games they had already sold in the past, leaving many indie developers and such in financial trouble / bankruptcy and such.
