dunno why but that ending till now i fondly remember.
for a game that is "self aware" and jokes about the industry.
it accomplished what it wanted to do IN THE FIRST GAME.
adding a bucket and a silliy commentary about how sequels suck. is beyond lazy.
because at some points in the game it shows they could've added way more.
i wanted too see new rooms new areas to explore and actual new endings that leave the same office.
Its a real shame that all we got were gags and just teases. The game keeps showing the player that the game could've been bigger better and with more experimental ideas.
But for some reason the decided to go "safe" im not even sure if safe is the right word...
its not lazy because at some points in the game it is new stuff that are really cool. but they are so tiny compare to the rest of the game. that when the player gets there it lasts for a single minute.
And the music ooh that music was wonderful. i would have loved if they continued on the path of finding one's self. The skip button ending felt like the game would have gone into a more deep and experimental path that gives the player a new side of the narrator and perhaps Stanley. No... we got a loading and back again to the office... just a giant miss.
What most upsetted me was the Stanley 2 area. which was just a waste of time. the whole thing was a giant joke full with silly gags that lead nowhere.
tbh me ranting about this is comparable to yelling into the night asking for the sun to rise faster. The devs won't "fix/change" the game because they just won't. But maybe just maybe in the far future where ill be dead and 50 meters under the earth stanley parable super dooper ultra deluex will be made and will finally expand and experiment with something new.
And wow they legit admit they had only 1 idea and that was the bucket..... HOW AND WHY.
that cannot be the only thing they wanted to put in the game. i refuse to believe the sole reason they put a bucket in the game was because it was the only idea they had. WTF !!!
At one point they even said they didn't know what to do with the unity engine.
sorry meant they didn't know what THEY could have done with the engine.
And that sounds even worst. I know game development is hard is a brutal process. But only committing to a single idea is lazy...
im gonna give examples on what they could'eve have added:
1. an actual adventure with the adventure line: Where the line is trying to help stanley run away from the narrator and escape the office and unto freedom.
2. wholesome character development of the narrator: Lets say after some disobeying from Stanley side leading him to escape the office into A NEW AREA. The narrator begs and begins explaining to Stanley on why he needs him and why Stanley needs the narrator. Leading to a heartwarming moment where the players are given actual choices on if they wish to be hearless and make enemies with the narrator (leading unto the war endings with the narrator) OR accepting their coexistence and ACTUALLY ending the game with a nice and heart warming ending.
3. actual experimental gameplay mechanics: One of the dev actually said he wished to work for valve.... well valve experiment and expand on previous ideas they always have. So aside form interactive button and door we could have gotten keys perhaps puzzles ANYTHING that was gameplay related.
4. mod support: aka steam workshop that is co related into the game. I'LL explain imagine this. Once the player reaches STANLEY 2 AREA the narrator explains this is "if he chooses" his own playground for modders. where they can add move paint what ever they want in that area.
5. an actual main narrative: now this will story will not be a simple "ending" but an actual story line that leads the player to more areas and actual story telling then gags and jokes.
why? you may ask. and thats a good question. stanley parable needs more gameplay and story. but what we have is short family guy episodes that like family guy END ABRUPTLY AND ADD NOTHINGNESS. this is why adding an actual story will give the player and the narrator something to be connected to.
WOW i have no life just ranting about a stupid game.
1. You must have some pretty selective hearing, as they didn't say that was they're one idea, they said that it was one OF they're main ideas, and if you didn't notice there's still much more than the bucket thats in the game (though I do agree there could have been more.
2. When the hell did you hear this? Also the original idea of TSP:UD was that it would just be a remake for consoles for people who hadn't played it before, they weren't planning on adding anything new at all before. As it wasn't really designed for the old players as much as the new players.
3. More of that selective hearing again, the dev was trying to work at valve way back with the OG TSP mod (which was they're first creation), which back then the storytelling was pretty unique at the time. And his ideals as a game developer has obviously changed.
4. I do wish that the confusion ending was slightly impoved, they were trying to make the game as close to the original as possible.
5. There is occasional development in the story/characters if you properly finish the game. But TSPs entire point is that games don't have any true progression or development. Also a few endings you made up kinda exist in a way.
6. What? No! Why in the hell does every game need mod support now? Like the entire point of the game is that there is now true freedom in games like itself, that would completely destroy its point, and how would that even work anyways?
7. Epilog ending
And always thought they are giving us stan 2 even though it is just a remaster with more jokes I guess.
totally wasted my time writing that.
