Should I buy this? Or the original?
I've never played Stanley Parable before. I'm wondering, is it worth the extra money for a new player? Or should I simply buy the original, and get this edition on sale? Thanks!

This contains the original content, so it's the exact opposite of worth the extra money to buy the old version.

I'd recommend knocking out a good chunk of the endings before going through the new content door, for better impact.

He's saying that this version of the game contains the original (save for a few minor changes) so arguably you should just get this one.

I would like to add, though, that you should play the free demo to the original Steam release, it is also a different game & quite a good experience that many people miss out on.

get this one, but make sure you do as much as you can in the og stanely parable before accessing the new content, things will make more sense and stuff. this is the original with so much more added to it so dont worry.
I have Ultra Deluxe but recently I also bought the original. Why? Because there are still certain things that are actually different in between the two. But if you had to choose between Ultra Deluxe and the original, I'd suggest Ultra Deluxe because it's simply the original, but remastered, still gets updates and has even more cool stuff! But if you want both versions, here's why you probably should or shouldn't get both :

Cons:
>You will be spending extra money for just a second of about half the same thing, one version just has more
>If you bought it outside of a sale... too bad
>Does not feature capybaras.

Pros:
>Each full game has two different demos for 3rd party games that the narrator has you try after you go through the blue door, rate your experience twice (in game) and play/not play the baby game. Personally the games you visit in the original are some of my favourite.
>The devs are very friendly and based, the narrator they have is perfect, so it feels good to support their work.
>Each version has a different engine. The original and its demo are in Source, and Ultra Deluxe is in Unity. So they each have their own hidden abilities (debug console in Source vs. able to install MelonLoader mods in Unity)

Can someone please just confirm for a total noob - can one essentially play the original game in the new version? I mean I know there are some engine/graphical updates, that's OK, but can you get the original narrative experience - like a menu option for the OG experience, or just the new content is clearly partitioned away and optional? Or is the new content integrated into the new version so a noob wouldn't be able to tell what is what, in which case maybe best to buy the original first to experience that? Thanks.

You can get the OG experience yes. The new content is put behind a door literally labelled, "New content". The new content doesn't come into the game until you cross the the threshold and look at said new content. You needn't cross into the new content area until you're ready to see it. That's what I did.
I got all the endings I could get from the OG experience. Then triggered the new content, and did it all again ^_^

Ah great thanks a lot! I missed above the new content was through a literal door, lol! Gonna buy this version then. Thanks!

this one is just the 2013 stanley parable with extra content
the only difference is that it's not in source engine anymore, meaning you can't access the console, meaning there's no way to get to the serious room that was in the 2013 version.

You can download a mod that uses MelonLoader. Once you have the mod and MelonLoader installed, it should run with Ultra Deluxe, this gives you cheat commands like noclip, unlock all doors, scene changer, etc... Note that when noclip is on, you can only use WASD to move around. I changed that for myself with dnSpy so that I could use Arrow keys myself. I don't remember the name of the mod though.

The Deluxe Edition has extra content and more endings, as well as better graphics.

Overall, I recommend playing the original Half Life 2 mod and then getting this.
