Game controllers don't work in Steam games. Firewatch was the previous one I was trying to get to work, without any success (it also doesn't accept resolution changes, and nobody cares to solve it for Mac users).
Why is it that game controllers are like printers? After four decades of computing, you'd think this would be BASIC functionality.
Unfortunately, it only works if your controller can operate in DirectInput mode. I have 8BitDo Ultimate 2.4GHz, decided to flip the switch from XInput to DirectInput and it works flawlessly.
Also, I kept Steam Input enabled. No need to disable it whatsoever using DirectInput.
