Spell seal not working

I've just started playing and I've searched all over Google trying to figure out how to use the spell seal on PC. Captain says to press and hold the shift key, but when I do near the sheep-mob right outside of Rigbarth nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

Far as I can tell, I play on a controller but briefly messed with the default PC keyboard settings, you press space to release the regular seal and hold space and release after it's charged up for the version that can grab items out of range and temporarily befriend monsters.

About your issue @buttercukixx it might have to do with the story.
There is a time where you'll not be able to use the spell, it kinda make sense at that time but I can't explain more without spoiling.

Had that trouble today - I figured it was cause we had left seed, but it was frustrating as got not crystals or anything with out it.. argh

I reached that part of the Story.
Captain Livia says she is taking and holding onto the player's Seal until the player decides whether or not they want to stay with SEED. During the time Livia holds onto the player's Seal, the player cannot use the Seal.
I thought it was obvious that it was taken by Livia when she literally says she is taking it and holding onto it.
It was very frustrating for me though because I progressed very slowly in the story, and as such it took a long time to get it back.
However, there is also very little progress that needs to be done to get it back.
I was just, uh, procrastinating and not focusing on the main story.
If I focused on the main story, I would have gotten the Seal back very quickly.
Such a shame, since using the Seal is VERY important, and I hardly used it at all when I got it, hence why I progressed so very slowly.
If only I made sure to use the Seal and capture the first 3 bounty target monsters in Phoros very early on before the Seal was taken away, and tamed both a Wooly, Chicken, and a Buffamoo... then I would have progressed much MUCH quicker in the game.

I must admit sometimes there is just too much jibber jabber and i just press a.. But for me it was pretty obvious what happened.. But it was still an inconvenience to not have it, as I was trying to collect crystals from the monsters before with it. Just killing them doesn't seem to give many crystals at all, don't think i've got any with out it actually.

My issue was that it was the space, not shift key, which was resolved by the first commenter thank you. I'm also in the part where Livia took my seal, and I'm trying to push the story forward as quickly as possible. I never even had an option to take a quest from the detective board before I got the grasslands quest. XD

So the part about the quest board by Terry's is misleading. It'll never show any unique quests there. You can only pick up your daily task there and that's it. However, where you turn in your daily task matters. If you turn it in at the board by headquarters you'll get a random medicine (para-gone, cold medicine, etc.) If you turn it in at the board by the detective agency you get 5000 gold.
