RF5 Same-sex romance is literally annoying and problematic
You get the right idea what i am going to talk about. I am very much aware of bi people existance. But let's be clear, here and now. There's no way in hell that there are literally THAT many bi people around the whole world in reality. And the game feels more unrealistic, while having this much bi people in this game, who would simply agree marrying regardless of gender?

First: as i said, it's unrealistic. Just cuz you're building relationship with such person, it doesn't means you want to marry specifically this one. But for some unknown reason, characters becoming more hinting on romantic interest in you. Literally saying hints to my face. And i find it foolish.

Second: Every NPCs should have at best having their own preferences. Like, 2 straight NPCs, 2 bi NPCs, and so on. The reason why lately games with romance mechanics became having only with bi characters in their games, remains unknown to me. This part is getting out of hands. Remember when was the last game that had such strict mechanics? RF4 for example. Or Dragon Age Origins / Inquisition.

And the third: i believe such games def should have mods, which making NPCs more demanding, than being unnatural. Such limits will at least giving them more personality, and at best, less annoying.

Also, those who will say that i should not marrying them, or ignoring them, cuz it was meant this way by devs, is pathetic thing to say. If characters having their personal performances, it's not making them less interesting. On the contrary, it will only making them more likable, or more dislikable. Having just all bi characters, making any games more repulsive.

Lets be honest, the best romance in this game is the one between Julian and Hina. Its cute, sometimes comical and age appropriate.

This "everyone is bi" szenario isnt anything new and is, sadly, poorly executed. But to be fair, this town seems to have some kind of weird game or rule going on for any kind of couple that isnt above age 70. Misasagi and Simone both say, they have Husbands. In Simones case i would guess he ran away to not be one of her testsubjects and he occassionally sends items/money as bribe to keep her at bay. For Misasagi i dont know. Maybe she ate him in her Fox-form or something, would still marry her though.
And there is no other married couple in the whole town, except for Randolph and Yuki.
But the bigger issue for me is the age of some of the spouses. For real: i can date Martin who seems to be 20-ish, but i could also date his younger brother who is...what? Cecil looks like 14 and he behaves like a boy this age would. I was shocked, when i saw the heart icon next to his name. But oh well, if you can date a god why not make a kid dateable, suuuurely a good idea.
Then we have Ludmila, at least she seems to be old enough for the character she is. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ she is Darkness incarnated. So now we have a Succubus, some fox-human hybrids, a literal god, 2 dragons, an elf, some psycho scientist, everyones beloved spiritanimal Elsje, a Princess and her knight and Adolf Heinzler(once you see it you can not unsee it). We only miss the vampires and we could re-name the town into mystic falls.
But the number one thing, that i dislike about RF5 is the lack of real character in nearly every NPC. They have a linear persona like "goody two-shoes" or Tsundere but nothing that really sets them apart or makes them interesting. Maybe thats just me but i didnt enjoy most of the romance stories since they didnt give me a lot of insight on the characters. That was something i really enjoyed in the earlier harvest moon games or in stardew valley.

Also OP: but the topic about the game, and not about real lifes.

Actually, Simone's husband is apparently an archeologist who's away on a dig or something. One of Lucy's date-prerequisite events has him sending her something that turns out to be cursed, so he's probably not any better than his wife.

is just they're player-sexual, that's all. it's a preference found only in NPCs in video games. it allows for the most player choice on the least budget allocation. this is better than 2 each of specific orientations for romance options. what if censored girl had been set to prefer women only? can you imagine the wailing?!

I have heard all of my life that it's no big deal to be catcalled and hit on without interest shown and comments made and parts grabbed, I should just ignore it, it's no big deal when somebody shows interest -- that's probably what you should do here. ignore it. turn them down when they hit on you, it's not hurting you to say no.

Realism is less important than wish-fulfillment in a fantasy "life another life" game. Give the players what they want.

Not really. It's basically just one line to set a boolean and one line to initiate the boolean in a character instance. (They probably have the second line already though, as not every character gets the heart and it makes more sense to use loops than rec or static set ups)

Just a:
set canMarry on * from characterlist to true;
IF player.gender = 'm' THEN for * from characterlist where gender=male do set boolean canMarry to false else IF player.gender = 'f' THEN for * from characterlist where gender=female do set boolean canMarry to false else catch exception and handle it;

(This is no code but a PAP, not even a clean one as I cut corners by setting the boolean twice instead of forming cases, however it would work and something like that in any programming language they used would kinda handle the thing)

So it's not really about the effort as it's just 'one' line (some languages might need more) but a decision made by choice and to be honest I like that decision as I haven't played long enough yet that I even have anybody on level 7 or so where it might even effect me. I might change my mind if it gets stupid and forced romance but as I see it now, the characters will probably only enter this path when I as player use the 'I love you' button.

So for now, I applaud the developer to leave the decision to the player.

Personally i always saw that recent trend of making all characters as bi, means making it as "Less work" and with it "Less personality". They can make things, like adding lines within programm that they can react to a certain playable gender. But... When everyone wants you regardless of the denger, i find it... Bizarre. The recent released game in my mind, where some characters can be romanced to a certain gender, is... I think it's called Warhammer: Rouge Trader. Most of characters are still bi. But couple characters with opposite genders, are desire to be married to the opposite gender only, I find this quite interesting. People says that Warhammer universe is literally like Dark Fantasy, with cruel storyline. And that's something that many people love about it.

There are not that many bi people in the world, you're right. There aren't that many gay people in the world, either, but we still have to listen to you cry about every little thing. Case in point: this entire post.

Eh. It doesn't bother me emotionally. It does bother me when I have to run around npcs on the map because I am trying to focus on just one or two character stories but everyone is marked for an event as I build friendship levels. In that aspect I wish I could lock away almost everyones romance route xD
