Those numbers don't account for the PC release (although even right after release RF5 wasn't in the trending games and I've no idea how it performed).
Hopefully we'll see a RF6 as those numbers don't seem bad at all.
I'm not even talking about graphics here. Small things like camera changing when running close to the field ( just let players do it manually! ), lock on is super wonky, balance is either die in 1 shot or don't take damage at all, heroines are meh and cliche, character dialogues are somewhat boring, short campaign ( finished the game within 1 in game month and a few days! ), open world full of empty houses / areas that feel like an MMO ( not in a good way ), don't feel any sort of bond with farm animals ( games like Harvest Moon let me talk with animals, pet them and even take them to pasture and watch them graze, in RF they just walk around like idiots ).... many many more smaller issues that I have with the game that sadly make this experience mediocre.
That being said I'm glad to see games like this being released and getting some traction because in the future we might get some good RPG / Farm / Dating sim. Whether it will be done by Indie studio or triple A developer.
I played all Rune Factories and Harvest Moons and I feel like there was more charm and effort put into the older games than the new ones. If they make RF 6, then I hope it will have lots of quality of life changes, improvements and balancing.
While that doesn't guarantee it will be a good game, Harvestella by Square-Enix may have a bigger budget.
Its important to remember that this game went through a very troublesome development process including the death of the company that made the series. Had they had their way. RF5 would have been a 3DS game just like 4 was. Plus this is their first 3D game in this kind of scale. Honestly I feel its more they got a bit overambitious in the scope category and slapped on RF4 for the core gameplay.
They should be ashemed of this game and just hide under a rock. I was considering getting RF4, after seeing this tragedy, but decided against giving them my time and money, its just not worth it with other games around and more incoming.
I thought the male/female swap thing was a neat idea, but the game was just kind of ... overall bad. I can't even really put my finger on what caused me to put the game down, but I don't even think I made it past the first in-game week, and I bought it in Japan on release and was really hype about it.
It seems like they didnt even bother to test the game properly before publishing it. Despite all the funds they have, they managed to make worse game than 14 years ago.
They delayed this one and it still didn't help them at all, someone in the company made very bad decisions for this whole project and since they burned money to make it, they had to publish it anyway. For their surprise game sold quite well, so I guess hype an marketing did its magic, but tricks like that don't work on me anymore.
Do take note this was originally announced 8-9 years ago that was meant to be released sometime 2016 2-3 years after RF4.
However due to the entire dev hell this game went through (was idle for 8 years) there's a lot of artifacts with how the place was set up to be on the 3DS down to the RF4 code base... (literally having HYDE transfer the RF4 source to Unity and use what ever concepts Neverland Co had before going kaput and then have Hakama's input)
ia kinda like this new approch, dont i dont want to returns to the rf4 style game.. that was horrible to play though.. but i hope they improve on what they started with in rf5 love intrests should be a lot better there was like 0 male that was intresting and the only 3 females that was intresting was the succbus woman, the princess and the half elf girl.. cant remember the sames.
i wouldent mind seeing new things added like newer weapons and some skills that you level up should be mixed together,, like instead of each weapon being its own skills have thme combine into one called i donno " weapon mastery"
overall i preffer this game over rf4.. as much as rf4 was good in some things it dose.. that game style was hard and horrible.
Give me Natalie from 2, Shino from 3, Lin Fa from 4, Misasagi from 5. It's not like you can marry multiple people at the same time, just give their children a few additional lines and have them live at your house. It really shouldn't be that hard to program in. Just don't repeat that weird thing in RF2 where if you marry Dorothy, your child can marry Cammy (their aunt).
i wanted the foc mother of hina.. shame she was not a option
