Statistiche:
Trying to tame Nine Tailed Fox... What am I doing wrong?
So I've put quite a few hours into this now (10-15 in-game days, Probably 3-4 hours of trying to catch)
My method has been relatively simple, weaken to stage 2, and then a bit more. Wait for the lock-on to say it can me caught (Lock symbol to go away) and throw a powered-up catch at it. It always has been a 100% failure, every time it has hit.

My catching is at level 23, Taming at 5 (Horrible I know, not sure if this matters), and overall character level is 40. (I heard catching something higher levels than you can be difficult, not sure on the fox's level, but since it's the first boss, thought it would be lower)

Eating food, standing still and everything I can to replenish RP during the fight, since the boss literally can't hurt me. I just can't get a successful catch to even try to brush it, or give it a bell.

Am I doing something wrong, or does anyone have advice? Or is my luck, like usual, that abysmal?

It likes the bells it can drop. Farm them and then try it with them. You need to tame it for the boss taming quest to count.
I thought you gave it the bells after you caught it with the spell, like the other monsters?

Edit: Well, looks like that's the issue, can't treat them like normal monsters I guess. 4 tries in of just offering the boss the bells I had gotten, and tamed it. Makes sense that you can't leave the area with a semi-wild boss I suppose.

Catching isn't taming.

You don't need to catch a monster in order to tame it. Just go to the front and give it an items it likes.
Boss taming chance is capped at 10%. Brush it if you want and gift it up to 10 items. If none of those 10 attempts succeded, reload and repeat.
It likes the bells you can steal from it or tempura but I'm sure you already see the issue where you are right now
As others have noted, it likes the bells it drops. You can get one by throwing your spell seal at it (though there's a chance you'll get nothing or fur instead), but after that, you can simply teleport back to town and then teleport back in.
I would strongly suggest saving before making any serious attempt at taming it, as the number of bells it wants is random, but most monsters will just flatout refuse to join you if you can't woo it with ~10 gifts.
I had one attempt where it flatout refused 10, reloaded and tried again, and it was tamed with only 5.

you just need to teleport back to whispering woods 2 entrance really
The level of your Taming skill also counts too.
You don't need to hit her, all the times I tried to reduce her life ended up failing.
Try to brush her to increase the odds, it will give you a little more success chance.
You can brush up to 16 times before start to giving the bells. Brushing also increase your Taming skill, so, before you start trying to tame, better save to keep the skill lvl.
After brush, I could taming her with only 3 bells (it was the fourth trying, cause still is random).
Edit:
By the way, Cerberus like cakes, I used 4 cakes because my skill was a lot higher (I guess brushing all that chikens and cows made the trick).

Gotta follow this thread. These days I've been struggling to catch a boss monster. Hey @Algester, I think I've seen you from Reddit. Hi :rf5fuuka::rf5fuuka:
Kill it till you get a stack of 10-15 bells. Brush it 15 times. give them the bell until you lose them all or tame it for your barn. If you dont get it, reload the save and try again. It took 10 minutes on my end after I figured it out.

Also, you must have open slots left in the barn . . . each room can only house 4 monsters. The lasso catching spell doesnt do anything except help you farm exp in this instance, just brush it and then when you cannot any longer give it the same bells it drops till you acquire the friend.

brushing has no efffect on bosses, also spell seal method is WAY more effective as u can get 10 bells in 1 day. the spell seal lock, visible when locked on a target gets removed on this boss after its <50% hp shout

Brushing has effect on bosses, at least at RF5, each giving 1% chance, up to 16.

where is your source for that?

from the wiki:
Boss monsters, regardless of your actions, will never have a higher tame chance than 10%, so having a Taming Skill of 50 and providing the boss monster with a gift they value is immediately sufficient for maximum odds. Saving beforehand and reloading may be necessary to avoid wasting your time on capture attempts.

Right, 16 is just the max number where brushing will have efect, sry for the misturestanding.

Quote: "Our team verified the probability of taming Nine-Tailed Fox and they found success 4 times out of 10.
While this number is relatively small, not using a brush at all will the eliminate any and all chances of taming Nine-Tailed Fox."

hmm i dont think they tested enough if they only tried 10 times. their statement that taming will not work if u dont brush is also false as i tamed mine in 2 attempts without using a brush at low taming levels

edit: to further go into this, if u brush a normal monster it will give the musical note 15 times indicating that it works, a boss monster doesnt give this at all
