should def be a toggle option when you start a game
"Are you into men or women or both" bam every issue solved.
But then there's the achievements.. there really should not be achievements relating to marrying everyone. thats just creepy and weird to me
Personally, as a heterosexual male, I don't mind characters (of either gender) being flirty with the MC, but _all_ eligible romantic partners being stuck in a maybe romantic maybe platonic state probably didn't do the writing team any favors.
If I was designing a game like this I'd probably tag some gifts as romantic (in a very obvious way), and let a 'romance' score add/switch some lines of dialogue and trigger events (e.g. dates, romantic walks on the beach, whatever).
None of the character events I've triggered have been romance focused. Just little events to let you get to know the characters better which I would think most players would be interested in regardless of intentions to romance the character.
I mean I have no intention of romancing the guys but it's not like interacting with them a bit will kill me.
You know the Japanese version was patched to include same sex marriage as well right?
I hear what you're saying and agree it could be better handled, but I'd rather a more organic approach vs picking a gay/straight/bi box at the start of the game. Characters flirty dialogue should only really be enabled if you ask them out on a date once but thats probably not optimal either as it suggests none of the characters find the protag desirable until their switch gets enabled, so you'd want them to throw out hints or take the initiative beforehand in some cases but then you're back to your original problem. I don't know what the answer; personally it don't bother me, I just laugh if its someone I'm not interested in, but I guess it's moot at this point anyway, unless a RF5 Special Edition will be released years from now like RF4.
Anyway the whole romance angle in this game is half baked at best - I married Lucy and the next day Simone said I better be careful about who I marry someday via her "extensive" repeating dialogue choices... uh, I married your daughter and you presided over the damn marriage. Im your son-in-law! And then Priscilla keeps asking me when our next date is. Woman I have kids on the way get a grip.
Seems accurate though i hear women like people who already have partners! you only succeeded in raising your appeal! all jokes aside though the more i think about the issue the more it ticks me off. but thats not just a RF thats just localizers as a whole
The real reason for this situation is the extremely small pool of dialogues the characters have to pull from, which is a massive step back from RF4.
People were already complaining in 1.0 that male characters were giving dialogues "intended for the female players" even before they announced the same gender patch.
And you were also forced to watch and do the events.
those gosh darned localizer sjws forcing their gay agenda into rune factory since *checks notes* 2009
