Bug - Taking Damage in Water

When you first spawn, where your companion is laying on the board, if I go in the water there, I start to take damage. Is that normal?

yes. water kills you.

You can get your feet wet, But don't try going swimming..

Its hard when you need to cross the big river in the east. There's a fordable part way up north at the point where the river flares out into a large lake-like body. Don't ever try to swim around a headland of rock from one beach to another... even if you survive, you'll be at almost no health. I learned that the hard way.

For me it felt like diving for 3-5 ? seconds is ok (more i time i do not know)..one dificult below "Normal" . And the deep river does push me back.
