How do you attach lanterns to lantern stands in your village? i got a paper lantern and the stand but can't interact with them

Access the decorations menu. You'll find the paper lanterns there.

ye i allready got one, or to be precise i bought one from a trader. but how can i attach said lantern to a lantern pole?

ah i got it now. you need to have the lantern in your inv and then BUILD the lantern again via crafting menu. weird way of doing that

You need to build a stand (for paper lanterns) or a hook (for oil lamps) first.
Then place lanterns/lamps into your inventory.
Open the building menu, find lanterns and lamps (IIRC, they are in decorations). Click on the lantern/lamp that you want to place. Stands and hooks now should be highlighted in dark violet. Place lantern/lamp.

Why can't we make paper lanterns, I have made paper but to make paper lanterns you need oval or small paper and there is no where I can see how to make this? or am I missing something I am now on level 27, I know how to hang them but as I see it you can only buy them?

Because it hasn't been implemented yet. Lots of stuff still waiting over the horizon in an Early Access system.
