expanding storage?
When will it be possible to expand storage capacity? In my example, I'm in year seven and have been merrily chopping down wood for many seasons with the result that I keep filling up my wood storage capacity. Adding additional wood storage buildings or extra wood storage containers in those buildings doesn't expand my overall capacity. For the time being I've simply reduced the number of logs my woodcutters retrieve and I'm selling planks instead of sake, but it would make sense that every building adds to your overall storage capacity rather than just making it accessible from a new location.

Inventory management is part of the game and something you'll need to learn how to control. Running out of room has consequences beyond not being able to store things. If your storage is full during the production tick, you will lose any overage that won't fit, reducing your overall effectiveness.

Okay, so I understand what you're saying, but I would argue that it doesn't make sense for me to have the same inventory capacity when I build my first building in my first town as I do after adding a third village. We're forced to build additional storage buildings in other towns if we want to be able to directly access their storage from that town, so the buildings are already part of the framework of villages too.

I do appreciate that inventory management has a rather large player-side bias in the sense that I can access any item from storage from any village. This obviously benefits villagers who can take food or beverages from their own storage, but it also helps players when we're building, retrieving implements, or grabbing goods to sell to a merchant or other village.

Maybe a good compromise would be adding storage capacity based on towns instead of buildings--no matter how many wood storage units I create in village #1, I don't increase my wood storage capacity until I found a second village. That would also potentially encourage people to create additional villages (in case the quest line doesn't prompt them enough).

Thanks for the reply though :) I appreciate all the work you do on the forum on top of the testing you're doing in the game :)

You do not need the buildings in a new village to access the inventory. You, personally, can use furniture instead of buildings.
NPC's will need only those storages they will directly access. So, if you have a farming village, you will need a general storage building (for seedbags) and a food storage building (for harvests). NPC's get their Needs items without needing access to that exact building as long as you have one built somewhere.
I do get the idea of making multiple villages more valuable, especially if/when they expand the map beyond where it currently is. And storage has always been the top of the list of player discussion.
There's still a lot of work to be done with inventory and storage so my suggestion would be for you to offer your observations and insights in the Suggestions forum and/or the feeback forum here on Steam or on the Toplitz Official Discord. Posts here in general tend to disappear fast and the devs are more likely to see them in the dedicated forums. They check those often and do read and consider all player input.
