Broken quest Secrets of the Trade
I got to the point of this quest where An Dong said he needs my help so that he can make the armor and buy his freedom. Problem is he gave me the task of making (5) Steel pickaxes and (5) iron shovels, BUT he did not give me the recipe for the smithy....so....how am i supposed to make these? :steamsalty:

You make them by progressing in the game to unlock the smith and the tatara furnace so you can craft them. No more hand-holding in quests. Now you have to earn it.

isn't it a bad timing to give quest requesting building steel tool when you are far from having smity yet ?

I had this quest too, but I just ignore it by choosing another quest. Later I could choose the smith and I also bought steel there. I still can't complete the quest, but take your time. you are not required to do this quest right away. Choose someone else and continue with the village, you will also earn points with that.

If I recall, there is a vendor in that village that sells blueprint for the smthy building

I buy the items from that vendor. Otherwise I have to wait until I get the right level.

I have to note, the progression feels a bit silly, as you need to be fairly high level to do the quest, and need the facilities to make tools you don't in-character know how to make yet, to give to An Dong, who then teaches you how to make them...

The quest was changed from a *much* earlier version that had the player making iron tools and having An Dong teach the Smith and the recipes for the tool required (standard axe). To increase the difficulty and try to guide the player to discovering and making steel tools, the quest was simply overwritten with the new requirements but little else was done with it. This is the same with all three of the village quests. It doesn't make a lot of sense but the quest system that you're playing is more of a placeholder and a way for the devs to have players interact with that mechanic. I'm fairly certain all these quests are being given a rather major overhaul at some point when the full questing mechanic is introduced (hopefully in 1.0). That's one of those little things about Early Access that we have to accept and deal with: waiting for a mechanic to be fully implemented. But Superkami has shown elite-level development acumen in both updates and listening to the players so Sengoku has been more of a joy to play in Early Access than any other game I've played.

Fair, fair. We'll see what they do, and it's not bad, just feels off because of the reasons. Honestly, one of the things that might help things like this feel better would be having usable facilities outside player towns, but that's just me thinking.

lol, we used to have those way back in the very early release builds
though, if I remember correctly, it was never an intended feature but a bug instead
