How to hang a lamp on a hook or lamp post?

Ok....I searched the discussion forum for information on this....but it is incomplete and nebulous at best. Please explain in an easy to understand way how to hang a crafted light on a lamp post. It is way harder than it needs to be....

You must have a lamp in your inventory. Approach the post or hook and equip your hammer. Right-click and choose decorations in the upper left part of the radial then select lights at the top of the next radial. You'll find the various lamps there. Choose the one in your inventory and aim at the purple area on the hook or prompt and left-click to place once you see the blue lamp ghost.
