Can't kill boars

I need one more for the quest. Done it before but this time I mostly can't find them. A boar icon shows, I creep towards it, it slides away and shows it's behind me. I turn around, same thing happens. Then eventually it creeps up on me, my fingers freeze and I die. What can I do?

I have never been able to kill a wild boar, except those on the quest and at the place indicated, not elsewhere. An arrow, then withheves with the spear or an axe. Unlike the others, these two once injured do not charge but run away, you have to run after them.
I would like to point out that I have restarted the game several times, and the time I was able to kill the wild boar was by following the chief's advice, by sleeping there in a tent... when I woke up they were there and docile :D

the best time to kill them is during the winter season with snow on the ground they show up much more easily and hint for the moment you dont have to be in ' hunt' area for the kill to count towards the quest completion
best to attack with a bow first and then finish of with a yari metal spear attack ( not thrown) while keeping the boar at a distance (press S key) 2 hits should do it

I managed to kill the 2nd one - it's taken days. My technique (when it works) is to shoot once then run for the rocks where they can't go, and shoot again from up there. The first shot really makes them angry, so you have to run like hell to get to a safe place for the killer shot, but not so fast that you lose them.

good move shooting from the rocks FYI there seems to be a bug where the next time you sleep you wake up at the hunting camp

I am having exactly the same issue. Hope it is a bug they can fix.

Spot the movement from a distance, if you stumble on them they usually kill you.
Once you spotted one go towards it and wait for it to face you, let it come to you and stab it 2 or 3 times with a spear.
When approaching areas marked for boars I get my spear in hand and stop running, look around you and watch for movement, they are easy to spot.
Be aware that there are usually more than 1 in the area, many times I got attacked from behind by a second one while skinning the beast.

The actual icon just shows the area where the boars are, not the exact position of the animal.

Oh... I did follow a couple of icons directly to the Boar. I could tell when I was close by double checking the map along with the icon on the Hud. This issue only happened randomly while other times I could navigate directly to them. May need the Devs idea on this anomaly do you think ?? Thanks for your reply.
