Jobs for villagers and their skills
I'm struggling to keep my villagers happy. They have food, water, tools etc. I'm wandering if the jobs you give them play a role in their happiness. I see when clicking the population that there are symbols which I figure are their skills. The flower and anvil icons are obvious but I don't know what the little "s" like symbol or "s"with a cog refer to. Probably simple but they are eluding me. Can anyone help me out? Thanks.

From what I have tried to figure out is that the "S" is for workers that I place in the Hunters Hut, Mining Bldg., Woodworking and cutting bldg, Fishing Hut, and Smithy. The symbol with the little Cog wheel and "S", I use them in those buildings too, but they seem to be good to do the Special Construction Jobs, ie - Bridges, Lookout Towers and the Big Bridge and Mining Resource Building. I'm not sure this is what they all mean, but it's the way I have been doing it and all my peeps seem happy! The anvil sign is better in the Smithy, but you can use the "S" worker too. Ciao

What job they have does not effect their happiness from what I can tell. Villagers will have higher Job efficiency if you place them according to their symbols.

One thing to note about villager happiness, if you just give them the minimum amount of food, water, maintenance, health, etc. that they ask for (Never moving the slider over to give more materials), they will never be happy. They show up to your village neutral and they will stay that way or get worse unless you give them More than their basic needs.

Happiness is tied to Needs. In the Dynasty tab, the needs are shown at the bottom with a pair of emojis, orange and green. Orange is the base need, what will keep NPC's content. Green provides extra rations. But this screen shows only your stock and your seasonal change. If you switch over to the Jobs tab in Dynasty, on the right side, you'll see the actual numbers you must produce for each need. You can use the satisfaction slider to change from orange to green to see how much is needed (red negative number). You must meed the minimum Need amount a good to keep NPC's content in that category.

How it works:

Not meeting a Need and running out of stock during season change = -2 penalty to happiness.
Meeting a Need at the base (orange) level = No change to happiness.
Meeting a Need at the optimal (green) level = +1 bonus to happiness.

Currently, 1 point of happiness modifier = 5%

Each Need is calculated separately so you can fail to meet a need (-2 penalty) and off-set that with meeting 2 Needs at optimal (green). The 2 +1 bonuses counter the -2 penalty.

I set all the sliders to green, but I've noticed they keep resetting themselves to orange, apparently at random. Why would you want to set them to anything other than green anyway?

The icon that looks like a marking pen or paint brush or ? sorry I asked other members of the family here and we kinda figured out all but that one... supposed to be a garden tool maybe?

i think the S symbol is a mallet or wooden hammer so maybe good at hunter/builder
the cog symbol is i think grain stalk or flower so maybe farmer/forager or cook

If all your villagers are already happy, then there is no reason to set them to green, and you will just waste resources. If they are content or lower, you can set one or more of them to green to raise the happiness level of the villagers.
