Inability to Travel across Misty water, please help.

So my brother and I have this game, and I will say straight up I absolutely love this title and I have played pretty much most known or relevant metroidvanias that I have heard of.

But my brothers file for whatever reason after reaching level 70 was told he is not able to travel past the mist/fog in Misty Waters to get to the main quest. He is not able to light the lantern on the ship when he hits it like I did and just stays out in limbo on the sea being stuck. Was hoping someone could tell me if this is a bug or perhaps you need something to light the lantern to keep mist at bay I cannot recall and have looked up online to no avail.

not sure what i did but when i got to it ifree lit the lantern when i talked to the dude. only thing i can think of is that you might have to kill the phoenix boss/ do something in the ashen Canyon after killing the phoenix

You have to kill a Goliath boss. any Goliath boss.

No my brother has beaten the Goliath of Pyro and the every boss before that area that doesn't involve swimming under water(since he hasn't been able to get this) basically he sailed on the ship got nervous that it was end of game and hit the steering wheel to go back before getting to hydro. And since then the ship has been glitching as it will not light up when hitting bell and he cannot get past the dark mist without the light on top of the ships mast. I hope the DEVS see this because it is more of an isolated incident and was hoping there was a fix. This why I miss manual save files where you can have multiple of same game.

The handful of people who have run into this issue accidentally sequence broke the game by visiting areas much earlier than they were supposed to. This is mainly done by bouncing off a flying enemy in The Columns and falling into Whispering Forest early. It's likely that there are plot-related flags your brother hasn't turned on, which might explain why the light doesn't work on the boat.

Here are the quests that should be completed before getting to Field of Hydro:
- Whistle (calling the Manta)
- Voice (talking to Mediator 00 in the Whispering Forest > warps you to the back half of Forest Foregone)
- Investigation (interaction and fight with mysterious cloaked girl in Forest Foregone)
- Not a quest but talking to the "Receptionist" (broom) in the mage tower in the upper NE corner of Silent Coast. Once you fall down the tower you'll end up next to the boat
- Reunion (Ifree lights the lamp on the boat to reach Field of Hydro)

You'll also pick up the wall climb and ground slam abilities throughout this process. I assume he has those?

Take a look at your brother's quest log and see what is currently open.

im also stuck bro like this is stupid 16 hours and i cant get off the ship
i cross the waters either side but camera like stuck on ship and wont let me get off this bug ruined the game so hard for me

You got the sailor to appear, and you lit the fire at the top, right? The most common glitch is one where the sailor doesn't appear, but reloading and running back fixes that. (Recommend opening the map at some point before jumping down from the library up top, or go directly once you break the wall.)

If you're having trouble for some other reason, I'd follow Lightbearer's advice and make sure that you've done everything up until now "properly."
