Memory shards are used in the endings but not consumed or anything like that. The game in the face of Owl tells you that is better to get them all, but all changes are miniscule and don't really affect anything. You can do the ritual whenever, you can even skip talking to Owl whatsoever until you're ready to get the endings. Gameplay-wise the ritual does nothing, it's just plot.
So doing the ritual is one/some of the endings then? Or does it change the endings based on how many shards you use?
