What's the intended way to proceed to The Whispering Forest?

Just 100%-completed the game and remembered I've been stuck at Columns location for an hour or so trying to find a way to the Whispering Forest. Finally gave up and check playthroughs and found one that helped me, time stamp (6:41)

But overall throughout the game I can't recall any other location like this where in order to travel to a new location during the main quest line (obviously not talking about hidden passages with treasures or spiked parkour sections) you have to use 'advanced' tricks like jumping on enemies, so I felt like this fish jump was either half-baked and out of place or not an intended way to get there. Which one is it?

Umm, the leftmost part of the Whispering Forest map with the dock symbol clearly hints at something.

Sometimes you can make some tricks work.
I remember in GRIME you could reach a high place by doing a combo instead of getting the double jump.
