Controller "Bouncy Stick" Issues; Game Killer
So uhh, most games have this fixed by ignoring input that only appears for a single frame; every other Metroidvania does this to prevent this issue. With a game that requires precise movement and directional facing, this is a bummer to see and practically makes this unplayable on a lot of controllers.

The issue happens when you let go of an analog stick, for a split second it will 'bounce' past the neutral "0" position. In this game, this causes your character to turn the incorrect direction, causing attacks to go the wrong direction and you to likely take hits. On some controllers (more prevalent on PS controllers sadly), the bounce is almost the entire joystick deadzone, so maxing it out often won't fix it.

Please, please do what all the other great Metroidvania's have done and ignore input if the stick position changes greater than "1", as can be read about here.[joostdevblog.blogspot.com]

I am sad to have to pass on this game until then, it truly is beautiful.

Seriously, you are really nitpicking on something absolutely nobody saw or gives a f.
It could of course be a REALLY MINOR problem with the game or even with your controller (drifting sticks (xbox, ps4...), dead zones...) or your own way to play the game.

Did you try modifying your dead zone on steam or with your controller driver ? Did you try to play with a M&KB ?

Sorry, but why do you let the stick go ?
Don't you always stick your thumb to the stick ? Like if you go left then right, you use your thumb to accompany the stick left then right without leaving it, instead of going left, releasing it to neutral (and so doing a bounce) then go right (small bumps to the stick).

The game doesn't require you to be frame perfect, it's not a soul's like. It is rather easy and quite forgiving in fact. You don't need to skip it for something that will kill you once in 100000 times (or never at all) and can be solved on your side. If you really want to find a problem to the game (there is some) to drop it, find something more important than this (i-frame, skills...)

I did modify, and explained why that didn't fix, and yes it is a pretty big problem no matter how you cut it.

The stick is normally let go when you reach the location you need to stop at. Once you move one direction, you let go to stop, not manually return to center. Most people do this, even if you don't notice.

This has already caused me to take about 10 unnecessary hits, and caused me to attack the wrong direction about 20 times in oh... What... An hour of playtime?

This is also with a relatively brand new Dualsense controller; straight from the MFG only about 6 months old.

Ppl actually play Metroidvania with the analogue? Dpad, my dude, so much easier and more precise. Afterimage could be without this issue, and Dpad is still a better way to go if you're trying for precision.

You should be increasing your deadzone to solve this problem in every game you play.

Damn I don't know why people can't read. Please, click the link and realize why that isn't always a fix.

Just so you know, maxing out my deadzone does not fix this as the stick bounce-back for a single frame is greater than said deadzone. This is often fixed by the developers in code; quite easily I might add. All of the great platformers/metroidvania's have this accounted for. Would be nice to see it in this one as well.

No idea if the developers read these forums, but if they do, this issue is why I have refunded your otherwise neat looking game.

op is not sane

your controller is broken as hell
just adjust the deadzone with a feature steam provides you.
INCREASE DEADZONE
its all your fault for using wear out controllers.

steam input is there for a reason.

sorry but git gud.
this doesnt happen with a not fully loose stick, and still is fixable urself without any effort.

Did you, perhaps, stop the think that that would have been the very first thing someone would assume, and try? Because it is, and was. The OP stated they tried it, and it was also the very first thing I tried before coming to the forums. Turns out, the deadzone on my controller is fine, and basically like-new. Turns out, it doesn't matter how much I adjust it, this game, and only this game, still has issues with it.

Why you feel the need to downplay an issue is beyond me. If you had read the thread, you would have noticed what you're suggesting isn't the answer. Let the developers decide if it is worth handling or not. If this specific issue doesn't affect you, then that is fantastic for you; enjoy the game.

You're a grade a moron that can't read. Got it.

Dude this happens with ALL my controllers, including my Steam Deck. Stop simping for the game and accept that there is an issue here.
