...i was just doing the same thing myself, yesterday and today — i know exactly the "loop" you're talking about too
i gave up on the endeavour after.. ..30 minutes i believe?
i took my little tail over to the ashen canyon to farm some drops there—
—oh!
hang on..
i've got some breaking news!
i took a brief pause from writing this reply, to check on my bestiary, to confirm whether the beasts i was targeting at the canyon had given me all their drops (in a shorter period of time) before the lowly archer had
(they did)
´turns out i had gotten the archer's drop — probably, an hour ago
i suppose, my best advice here is to tell ya to just keep at it
and, do all you can to boost your drop rate!
but boy do some of the enemies in this game trigger Krisagrim ptsd
all ive seen are the tiny % boosts on the talent tree
(𝚜𝚙𝚎𝚌𝚒𝚏𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕𝚕𝚢 so, as a matter of fact)
i won't spoil anything, beyond that, for you
what i can tell you is, you'll definitely know the gear when you come across it — there's a certain afterimage you should have, or should be picking up soon, which will grant you some more opportunities to try your luck
as for the talent tree: that was included in my "do all you can to boost your drop rate!" advisory
yeah, you're gonna wanna invest in that as well, sheakiru
ah, the crissægrim
indeed, the ptsd is real with that one
the other drop from the archer doesn't appear to be anything special; you can loot it from other beasts with more frequency, if you're so inclined
actually, i need to go back and play with the froggie some more — yeah, i don't have its single, solitary drop, either
though, i'm presuming it, also, is nothing special
my apologies for the delay in response, by the by: i took it for granted that steam would automatically notify me of replies
well, no
no, it didn't
i need to check some settings, for whether there's an option to enable an automatic "subscription" to discussions
mob pogosticking is precisely what i was referencing, with this line
that's what i'd done, whenever the game allowed me to
and i'll say no more beyond that, in the interest of allowing you to find out more things on your own
one side effect of a game which doesn't shoe•horn you in a linear (or even semi-linear) path of progression: NPC Management can be "a thing" if you're not following a guide
i haven't used any guides, myself...
...well, except for one puzzle
a puzzle which you'll know what i'm talking about, if / when you get there, kiru
another side effect of a game which doesn't shoe•horn ya: going on a treasure hunt (the collect-a-thon) is sooooo satisfying
especially for an arse-kicker like 𝙰𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛•𝙸𝚖𝚊𝚐𝚎 which, as far as i can tell, makes little attempt to hold your hand.
-i think i saw a comment asking if the game was casual friendly... and after getting a decent way into the game... im going to have to say NOPE... and powerleveling through all the content isnt really doable end game either thankfully.....
-actually if i had to describe my personal experience for like... almost the whole game (due to my tendency to try to force my way into any part of a game i have even a sliver of chance of reaching) this sums it up quite nicely (and.... more accurately than id like to admit xD)
https://i.redd.it/open-world-technically-v0-z35pvt55wib91.png?s=38bcb595e7ae3a2307b94f4c43c0c2a590f94d1a
id have to say skill level wise you should be able to at least clear 1 seed difficulty of dead cells with relative ease for the non early sections of the game
if you were to make this your first metroidvania type game, its highly likely that some folks would give up early out of frustration of "mechanics/ where am i supposed to go/ how was i supposed to figure that out" while the average connoisseur of metroidvanias will be, from the moment they have control of the character, committing environmental atrocities at any chance they get trying to find that sweet juicy "wall chicken" and never ever be disappointed, like a kid who found $50 bucks right in front of a candy store
yeah, i've had to "nope" out of quite a few areas myself
and i still am
while i wasn't..
..thrilled with how gleefully 𝙰𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛•𝙸𝚖𝚊𝚐𝚎 kicked (kicks) my s--t in, so frequently..
..all the same, in the back of my mind, i couldn't help but remark, "i'm glad this game respects me enough as a player, not to make its main game a cake•walk"
and, it is also true, i can try playing a little less sloppily
(i'm slowly, but surely, clawing my way up — so i gotta be doing something right)
as a 41-year-old gamer, who grew up with Symphony of the Night (but, not『Rondo of Blood』unfortunately), Castlevania III, and the pretty-dang-iconic (but, under-appreciated) Order of Ecclesia..
..i feel like 𝙰𝚏𝚝𝚎𝚛•𝙸𝚖𝚊𝚐𝚎 honours its forefathers, significantly-more than Bloodstained had
i could rank afterimage in an analogous league with dead cells, as a matter of fact
100%, i've been "breaking and entering" wherever i could, too
without a care in the world
plus, i figure, the game will let me know, unequivocally, when i can't
(incidentally, so far i have managed to "100%" one of the biomes!)
heh
the devs of afterimage got the lawn chair, a bag of popcorn, a sun umbrella, and a scantily clad pool guy (or gal, as their preference may dictate) just off to the side, fanning them
there are just a few things in the game i would button up, that i believe would bring the experience from a "wow, that's pretty dang cool!" to a "jesus christ, where have you been all my life?!?" if implemented
Still i love this game as HK and from games+ so magnificent jp voice acting and reine character.. She is really terra from ff 6 reincarnation, love her so much
Still this game can be a mess and all bosses after anor londo is a meme - you can bruteforce it. thanks.
