Clanfolk

Clanfolk

gameplay idea : 2nd phase of the game; Surviving the society as a clan
Well, I'm an Asian. So I understand that a clan usually refers to a noble family with extravagant lifestyle, who have a lot of workers and vassals. So their young master (I mean the clan Chief children) would not do mundane work / chore like hauling, chopping woods, etc. But more of studying, practice martial arts and attending party for social relation with another clans. But I don't know about the Scots clan at all.

So, I'm curious when the clan children spend their life like a child labor instead of a rich young master in the game. Well, I can relate with it when the game start. As the clan is basically a poor peasant family, without name, prestige, and richest.

But what happen after that? We know that after the 2nd years, the winter problem has become less and less deadly, compared to the 1st year. Well, yes. Maybe they're deadlier. Maybe. But would the children stay as a child labor, and become another labor when they become an adult? Or they should shift their lifestyle, from a child labor into a more and more dignified noble children?

I think I can assume that the phase where we have to survive in the beginning of the game should be call as "Surviving the nature" phase. But when it become less and less important at the later of the game, the game should shift into the 2nd phase "Surviving the society".

At this time, your family not only have to survive the nature, but also the society. of course, without any battle mechanic, as the Dev already stated that the game won't has any on screen battle. But why would we follow the main stream idea? Every other games like clan folk already focus in combat. Like Going Medieval, etc. so Clan Folk has to be different. Rather than combat, it is the battle of prestige and pride.

At the beginning of the game, your family has 0 pride. So it is okay if your core family do manual labor, and your children become child labors. But later on, when the 2nd phase start, you can't stay like that forever. Because your core family lifestyle will become the show case of your family prestige. The more extravagant your core family lifestyle is, the higher your family prestige in the game.

So no manual labor for the chief family. Well, if you want to stay as a peasant family, it's fine. You can just ignore the prestige and stay as a peasant family. But if you want to increase your family pride, then there are two things that matter. Money, and prestige. For the manual labor, you should hire a labor to do your bidding. If you clan chief or your Juvenile children doing manual labor, your prestige will be drop.

So what should the children do? You guess it. Studying, practice jousting / martial art (without on screen battle), hunting for fun, partying with other noble children (basically like noble anywhere in this world).

While the adult will do more social activity. Like becoming an artist who make an art for showcase, hunting for fun, training as a knight ( or Clan warrior, I don't know, Join the king's army in battle and survive or die because of it, attending off screen party, or make a party and invite other clans, who know you can attract the king, princes, and princess. Or maybe join a combat tournament of screen. But before that, you have to prepare. Like building more and more extravagant house / castle / clan house, wear extravagant clothes, etc.

I am Scottish, a Scottish clan would be an extended family who live and work together, also friends who share a common goal, people could be adopted into a clan . A Clan chief may be able to live a life of luxury, but most would be normal working people who live just like in the game. Scottish clans were not really nobles as such, but large families that looked out for each other. Some very large clans would have a chief living in luxury, but it was/is also their responsibility to look after their clan members, think of Clan chiefs more like "elders" of a family.

Ritz pretty much explained Scottish clans, but there are other games that I really like that you might enjoy as well. Specifically, I recommend Norland and Lords and Villeins for a similar vibe to what you posted.
