Clanfolk

A matter of linguistics.
So, the latest update introduced some basic veggies, including neeps. I had to google what neeps are, and I found out the word is from the Scots language[en.wikipedia.org]. I find this brilliant.
But all the rest of the game is written in standard American English, even the autumn is called fall. Wouldn't be translating the whole game into Scottish English[en.wikipedia.org] be even more terrific? Wouldn't it help the atmosphere immensely? We are in the Highlands, after all.

Of course, I understand this is not an easy endeavour. I don't imagine there are a lot of experts on Scottish English. Perhaps British English could be easier in both writing and understanding. Also, according to their FAQ, the devs of Fallen London (a game about Britain made in Britain) get quite a few false typo reports just because they write in BrE, so there's that as well.

But if it's possible, I imagine it could be great indeed.

tbf i think adding Scots words would add to the theme of the game and its not like folk really need to know what neeps are and if they want to go learn a bit of Scots history then thats a plus . unleash the auld maw's n bairns i say

You speak as if I suggested removing the Scots words from the game. I suggest quite the opposite. What I say is this: yes, Scots words, great! But what if we go all the way and also translate the whole game into Scottish English? Or at least British English? Wouldn't that add to the atmosphere?

Im with you and was replying to the other 2 folk who said "Not if no one knows what they're talking about" & "I would like to play this game without dictionary"

I like this thinking. I learned irish for fun in university for a couple of semesters and it seems that scottish and irish hava a lot in common, in relation of language and pronunciation.
What about names? I had a single family wirth the males called Jon, John and Johnne ...
There a so much great and cool scottish names like Ailig (Alex), Aindreas (Andreas), Bhaltair (Walter), Eanraig (Henry), Iòsaph (Joseph) ...
And for the girls! Aoife (Eva), Dior-bhorgàil (Dorothy), Muire (Mary), Sorcha (Sara), Olibhia (Olivia) ...
Maybe it would really be nice to make the game a little bit more ... scottish?

It seems to me that there's a clear solution: A Scottish English option box. :)

It already has the Scottish names, half of them I can't tell if they're male or female:lunar2020thinkingtiger:

I for one would love to see the Scottish language in full, or even more Scottish words, but I agree that if it was done properly, then it would be really difficult for people to understand. I'm English and I struggle with Scottish sometimes even though I have Scottish friends.

Maybe as a mod in the future, but I'd suggest to let a born Scot do it because otherwise there may be errors irritating to those of us that hear Scottish for real)

You can already create a language pack for this game. All it takes for someone to do it. Instructions are on the discord
