Permanent Buffs?

I keep hearing about permanent buffs when it comes to successful runs. How would I get potions with permanent effects?

No potions gives permament effect unless we are talking about instant effect potions like poison but drinking the same potion again while still being under it's effect will strenghten it for example making speed and strenght boost permament, same for transformation which btw will do something special if you drink it while are permamently monster.

I've also heard that either poison or alcohol will remove the strengthened effect. Is that right?

Poison yes, but if I remember correctly alcohol doesn't remove it.
