While i dont own the game i may be able to help you
one issue i could see happening is that since the game is a 32bit program it may not be compatable with 64bit processor could cause the issue to occour. what to do is this.
1. boot up the game and leave it running in the background
2. hit Control, ALT, Delete to get the task manager
3. select the processes tab
4. Find Arx Fatalis Process and right click on it
5. in the menu click set affinity
6 untick all the boxes untill there is only one box ticked
7. click ok and close the task manager
8. continue your game of arx fatalis as you would normaly
what this dose it it forces the game to only use a single core and there for counters any multi core issue with the game. i will point out however that you will have to do this every time you start the game up as i dont know how you can force the game to only use a single processor.
if all else fails then there is always compatability mode!
Hope this helps
I find this solution is also helpfull in outher older games such as Sim City 4 which also crashes at random. so if you get the same issue with any outher older games then try this as well!
Also, bob, Arx Libertatis doesnt have any viruses or anything, correct?
This is due to the timings of modern CPUs and CPU cores don't work as they did in the pre-2005 days. The game's timings get it wrong, Looking for old timing values its used to and that affects everything being piped over from the graphics and sound to the data being passed to and from RAM.
hi Canton.
I havent used windows 8 much however i couldent see why the solution would not work however i dont know if they have changed the taskmanager launch shortcut. try the solution to see if it works is my only advice for you.
Good luck and hope this helps.
