2) Look at map in game, specifically the room before the puzzle room. On your way to that part of the crypt, you should've been picking up some "curious items" with symbols on them. On the ground in various suggestive locations in the room right before the puzzle room, those very same symbols are drawn on the ground in stone/dirt patterns. That tells you the relative locations of the outer circle, which is the first part of the puzzle. The second part of the puzzle is pretty obvious, and you'll get a prompt that basically explains it fully to you.
If you want some real 9001 iq + moon logic puzzles, have a go at La-Mulana 1 or 2 without any sort of walkthrough.
Have fun!
I would've missed it, but I was looking at the ground for any switches/buttons and saw one of the crescent moon symbols, so I knew there had to be "something" to it. That led me to find the other symbols and probably reduced my time spent on the puzzle quite a bit.
Awesome! I recently finished another playthrough of it myself, and might play through Ultima Underworld 1 and 2 next since I'm still kinda feeling that same vein of dungeon crawling (gotta finish my current 50th playthrough of Might and Magic VI first, though...)
