Troll Idol bug

I put wine in the king's cakes and stole the key from under the goblin's pillow. Now I'm inside the vault. I'm unable to progress after picking up the troll idol from the trapped (now untrapped) chest because the goblin won't walk into the room. I get the wide screen black bars on my screen and nothing happens. Does anyone have a fix?

As you probably realise, those black bars are when it should be playing the brief cutscene where Atok, the goblin, enters the room and discovers you with the Troll idol just before you have to fight and kill him for the key needed to exit the room.

It sounds like you are playing the game without the Arx Libertatis unofficial patch and latest devsnap file installed because they fix a ton of issues and bugs just like that.

I have searched the Arx Libertatis bug tracker website and cannot find any instance where the issue you have has been reported by players using the Arx Libertatis patch so it looks like that is what you need to install if you want to progress in the game.

I'm also pretty sure the Arx Libertatis patch uses a different save folder location to the base game so you should be able to just copy and paste your previous progress saves from the original folder location to the new one and use those ok but just in case I'm not remembering correctly, it is probably worth you backing them up first.

Thanks for the response. I managed to fix it on my own but for future playthroughs I'll keep the patch in mind. I had to make sure the door was closed before I picked up the idol and then approach the door straight on so Atok commits to conversation.

Oh man! Never guessed you had just not shut the door as that is the first thing I always do when I don't want to be spotted stealing anything in this game, lol.

By the way, in the arx castle kitchen backroom, there is a cookbook for goblins, give it to the goblin's cook and get free 1000xp

More people are having difficulty installing Arx Libertatis, and especially Development snapshot. DS is generally unstable with the latest version.
