GAME DOES NOT LOAD OR START GAME (DDRAW OBJECT HAS A NON-ZERO REFERENCE COUNT)

I have just purchased the game and verified files after receiving the following pop-up when I try to start the game:

"A DDraw Object has a non-zero reference count (meaning it was not properly cleaned-up). This Program will now exit."

And that's it... game does not load or start... very disappointing as it is first attempt to load and/or play the game.

Yes, if you repleace all files then it will run Arx Libertatis throught steam

To copy Steam.dll

Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Arx Fatalis

Then paste Steam.dll

Launch Arx.exe (Arx application)

Create a new shortcut for the desktop

On the other hand it is not possible to launch it from Steam

Just tried all this as a reinstall, but it fails to run. Oh well.

I had this same issue. I resolved it buy placing the steam.dll in the game directory. Then right clicking on arx.exe, and run troubleshoot combatibility. It changed some windows 10 settings to allow the game to run.
