Problem in Crypt Level 5 - Poxsellis' Helmet Area
(Playing Arx Libertatis version)

I'm able to get my hands on Poxsellis' helmet, but no matter what I do, the gate shuts and I can't get out of the level. I put the helmet on instantly, I cast invisibility, I follow the arrows, but by the time I get to the gate, it's shut.

What am I doing wrong?

Did you defeat the liches? I could be wrong, I can't remember clearly, but you may have to defeat them for the gate to reopen. Please, someone correct me if I'm wrong! And, good luck. :)

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried killing both liches but the gate is still locked. According to a video walkthrough I watched, apparently it's supposed to be possible to put on the helmet and follow the arrows to leave before the gate closes, but I can't seem to manage it. I'm wondering what I'm missing.

Crypt has many other exits. You can go for example one level down and leave crypt here

Going through that gate is the only way out from the area where you get the helmet. I can only think of that you maybe weren't fast enough when following the arrows. i also walked as straight in a line as possible on my playthroughs. Lichs don't have to be killed, luckily :)

You dont have to kill the liches.

The gate is closed until you follow the arrows on the ground very very precisely. The gate only opens if you took exactly the path to the gate following the arrows on the ground. You can see them only if you wear the helmet of poxellis or cast reveal

Thank you for the advice. In the video I watched, that player made his character invisible. Does being invisible help? I have noticed that a curse seems to be put on me to slow me down as I'm walking toward the exit. I'll try speeding myself up and going invisible to see if that helps at all. I also wonder if it's necessary to step on all of the arrows (?). Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to try.

I don't think I've ever put on the helm and followed arrows out of there. I'll have to try this for my next play thru to see what y'all are talking about. Sadly, since it doesn't ring a bell, I have no good suggestions. But I would think casting invisibility would just help you avoid the liches. Anyway, I'd totally do what Oneeyed and Kisa said, and yes definitely step on all arrows. Good luck! And have fun!

Liches are easy to kill if you cast repel unded

I really don't know what game people played but it is mandatory to follow every single arrow on the ground exactly. You can look this up in every walktrough out there.

Either you follow every single arrow exactly or you stop playing this game because all the posts of the world wont help you. You dont have to be invisible but of course it helps if the liches cant see you. If you get slowed then because there is a spell called slow and it was cast on you.

Hundred of thousands players got through this so just follow my instructions exactly and you will too.

Oneeyed, do you mean to be able to leave the bottom level of crypts in general? Cuz, I just left, without ever looking at any arrows. I just defeated the liches and just left, and took my sweet time doing it. I didn't feel I had to rush thru that area. I've beat the game 3 times in the last ~2 years (whenever I bought it) and I had no idea about this arrow thing. Now I'm wondering if it's a bug I should have reported. Oops?

I guess I'll have to really, really try this to find out what you're talking about. Before beating the game the first time, I've only looked up a walk thru to help with the location of the dragon egg part because I was completely stuck. Soon after beating it I looked up some dudes Lets Play on youtube (not all of it yet) to see how some have played it differently, and to hopefully find out how you're actually supposed to find out about the location of the dragon egg in the first place. (I still don't know, beyond vague hints in one of the in-game books, but, whatever...) Now, there's still other videos I can watch, including finishing his, but I haven't bothered to yet. So, if there's more to this game than I realized that actually makes me very excited that I can learn something new about it.

I really, truly love this game.

Thank you for the advice, Oneeyed. I'll have to give it a try once I get back down into the crypt again.

If you got out of the last level of the crypt without following the arrows then its a bug or glitch. You are not supposed to be able to leave the area where Poxellis helmet is if you don't follow the arrows. If you don't follow the arrows the gate is shut. That is how it works.

You don't have to kill the liches for leaving the area at all. You can just grab the helmet and leave and come back later when you are stronger.

Regarding the dragon egg I never bothered to find any hints because if you just explore everything you just stumble over it anyway. Thats how I found the dragon even before I needed the dragon egg. I believe I was level 2 or something and it bothered me that I can see an area where I couldn't go so I just used a levitate spell back then.

Oneeyed, thanks for the info. I'll have to try to report the bug soonish, if it shows up in the latest build of arx-libertatis, which wasn't installed when this bug showed. So maybe it won't show up at all for my next play thru.

Anyway, I've just been curious how one was supposed to discover particular things in this game, when it was new, without ever looking at a walkthru. It does seem like you were meant to just wander everywhere possible, but I just feel I missed talking to some NPCs for info. Also, I find it the oddest thing that the dragons lair is right above a goblin toilet. I really felt deep in my bones that you were meant to destroy the toilet and crawl thru a secret hole to get there as an alternative route. But neither sword nor fireball can blast thru that toilet, which left me a little sad...

This bug is in "August 13th, 2018" release of Arx Libertatis?
