How the ♥♥♥♥ are you meant to kill Ylsides?
Seems no matter what I do these ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are impossible to fight without getting them glitched.

Fireball, Firefield, Incinerate or just wait until their speed spell is gone and fight after it.

Incinerate seems to work after I've spent a lot more points in casting than I previously had (i'd mostly invested in the close combat and mechanical skill until now).

Waiting until the speed effect wears off isn't really an option though. They go faster than you and will kill you before that effect wears off.

Incinerate x2 or Fireballs x3 that is what i will do always

When I play a pure fighter then I just run away with the Ylside in tow. I never get hit by them. If the terrain is favorable you just have to run in circles until their speed spells are gone. After that a Ylside is easy to beat. Liches or golems are much much harder.

But if you just precast 3 fireballs you don't have to do this. 3 fireballs in a row kills every Ylside in my experience.

4 Fireballs wasn't enough to kill Ylsides before I upped my casting, so that wasn't really an option. Liches and Golems are way, way easier with their stupid AI that can easily be baited and just walking slowly in the opposite direction makes them unable to do anything to you.

Almost everything and everyone (except for Akbaa) in Arx will fall before you, if you precast a triple Harm. If you also happen to have the Meteor or Inut swords, possibly poisoned, it's a matter of single-digit seconds to drop an Ylside, even if you go up against 2 or 3 of them (as in the Temple, just before the final fight). Everything else will drop in just a couple of good hits.

If there is a problem, it's only the very first time you face them, when you first return to the City and they have overrun the castle. Same deal though, triple Harm and the best weapon you can equip, you'll just need the odd health potion every now and then...

In actual Libertatis version magic arrow damage more fireballs.

Harm is a bug ? And they "fear it" ? Maybe you meant to write something else. Harm is perfectly legit spell, works fine, no one is "afraid" of it, it just continuously damages anyone who comes near you. So you triple-cast Harm, Ylsides keep coming near you (since they can only melee) so (a) they keep getting damaged (Harm bypasses their high AC), and (b) they get slowed down or even "stun-locked", in which case you can happily chop'em with your weapon of choice :steamhappy:

Pretty sure he was referring to a fairly common bug that happens when you use harm against Ylsides that causes them to just stop attacking you.

OK, in that sense you are correct, that would be bug-exploitation, but personally I haven't seen it happen once, and I've played Arx for triple-digit hours. The -expected- effect I've gotten using Harm while facing Ylsides is that, although sped-up, they slow down when coming into contact with the Harm's field, long enough for me to land a fully-charged Inut Sword blow (which is the slowest weapon to charge).

On the other hand, I've seen the "frozen Akbaa" bug a few times, so it's not like Arx is totally bug-free :steammocking:

I made a mistake and was playing a pure melee warrior, when i see how easy some people kills stuff with a few fireballs it makes me really sad.
I was hacking sure 40 times with my best weapon at this giant worm which guards the dwarfes area, a youtuber was casting 2 fireballs and it was down.
Not sure if this arx liberatis mod made things easyer (i play without it) but so far i really hope that i can beat ylsides at the end with only 20 points in spellcasting and 7 int:)

Definitely beatable with melee but much, much harder. Really, there's no avoiding using magic in Arx from my experience. Even if you want to focus on melee, you want to be able to enchant ♥♥♥♥ which is tied to your magic.
