I'm stuck in the kingdom's jail cell!

I destroyed the meteor in the Temple of Akbaa and then returned to the Arx Kingdom using a portal to zone directly into the castle. The throne room had been conspicuously devoid of the usual NPCs, so I moved into the hall where I was then accosted by a Ylside. I figured the king may have been imprisoned, so I made my way down to the jail cell where I was knocked out (or something) by a Ylside who turned out to be Kultar. He told me to escape through the trap door and, as I was leaving, I heard a voice exclaiming that I had escaped and to evacuate.

I would think that, since the Ylsides abandoned the kingdom, then I should be able to return to the castle. However, a second after zoning there, I am relocated into a jail cell without any explanation. The weird thing is, I'm stuck in there with a fixed camera in third person view. If I press the movement keys, there's animation, but my avatar doesn't budge an inch. There's also no visible cursor. The cell door lock is impossible to pick and I can't find anything else in the room to click on. Using Reveal and Night Vision spells doesn't reveal anything.

My journal tells me to "return to the kingdom and find a way back to the Noden"... But I've looked all over the kingdom, spoke to all the NPCs, and nothing seems to advance my quest. I've read a walkthrough and it says to return to the throne room where King Lunshire will thank me, but I can't get into the throne room since I end up in prison using either the front door or the portal located within the castle.

I've been stuck in this game plenty of times prior, but this really seems like some kind of game-breaking bug. Guess I'll wander around aimlessly... That's worked in the past. :)

I loaded an earlier save, destroyed the meteor, and then, instead of taking the exit on the left side of the meteor, I took the exit on the right which ends up in the tavern.

I walked to Arx through the tunnel that had been cleared out prior, spoke to a wounded guard, which updated my quest, and proceeded to make my way to the castle. After seeing Kultar at the kingdom jail, I exited through the trap door and then I returned to the castle... this time, everything worked as it should and I was able to speak with the king in the throne room!

I'm not sure if this is a bug that affects the original version of the game or one that had been introduced with Arx Liberatis (I'm using the latest build dated 01-17-2018).

♥♥♥♥ dude, I have the same problem as you, but I saved after leaving the castle and I don't have any save before that part so I don't know how to fix this.

Apparently, after destroying the meteor, interacting with the wounded guard in the Kingdom of Arx will advance the quest. Since escaping from the jail removes that NPC from the world, then progression appears to be impossible. Quite an oversight by the developers. Unfortunately, I'm not sure you have many options other than restarting the game--a sickening prospect, to be sure.

A bit of advice--expect crap like this to happen and create saves after accomplishing main goals so you don't lose much time when it does. I always keep at least three manual saves in addition to the quicksave.

Same thing happened to me, except I interacted with the wounded soldier. For me, whenever I go back into the castle, I end up in the jail cell. Damn. I don't see a way around this.

Huh. Did you exit the meteor room through the door that exits out through the tavern and then enter the Arx Kingdom where the solider was located? From what I recall, I got the quest update immediately after I finished interacting with the soldier. Did your quest journal update at that point?

Sorry to necro this thread but I got the same problem and googling it leads to this very same thread. Luckily I found a solution so I'm posting it here in case someone else runs into this game breaking bug.

Anyway, if you too encountered this same problem with no prior saves to the bug there's still a solution!.
Simply use the cheat noclip when you are stuck in the cell and go flying right next to the sewer entrance teleporting you back to the city, then go the castle this time not teleporting you to the cell and letting you speak to the king to continue your quest.

If you don't understand how to use a noclip cheat: you have to draw 3 "stairs" 3 times, not separate lines.
