On the other hand, this is a niche game a few year into it's life on the market, and likely has now see the bulk of purchases it'll receive. Some of the features I'm sure many of us would like to see (passenger service, etc) likely have high man-hour development requirements and probably won't generate a sales bump sufficient to offset that cost. We might see some DLCs (would be nice to see some later rolling stock, some DRGW Ks or an EBT Mike).
Is it the game I hoped it could have been? No, and I don't think there will be one exactly what I hoped for. But it at least ended up in a far better and more fleshed out state than it seemed it would immediately after the drama in 2021/22, and I wish all the team members well in future endeavors.
How about you go read the Trello.
I was inclined to agree with you, until I went and read the Trello... Everything is marked as shipped, I knew some of the team was taking a break, but nothing new planned to come, not even a planned bug fix for PC, maybe it IS abandoned. OR, maybe the team is just not great at communicating with the community.
Hello,
Like we have stated, consoles are still being worked on at this time, we are working to fix some issues that are exclusive to consoles, as well as provide consoles with the stuff that pc has. Again, we have also stated that the games creator is on a break from the game ATM, he has been working on the project non stop for the past 4 years, so it is only fair that he gets to take some time away.
Folks have been claiming that we are not communicating with the community, when in fact we are, everyday I have to keep telling people that we are working on consoles, I understand that the pc folks are hot on the heels of getting monthly updates for the past 2 years, and with that came a lot of news and information regarding those updates. Right now there is no new news at this time, when there is something new, we will share in our usual spots like we have always done. For now, there is a lull as we are winding down from 1.0 and finishing up getting our console friends up to date with pc. Once this is done, things will be quiet as we will need time to breath and reflect on what we can do next as well as plan for what is to come.
hope this helps
Hello :)
Thank you for the update about the current situation. I understand that it must have been hard working on the game for the past 4 years. But since the workload is immense and the communiy won't stop complaining.
Wouldn't it just be easier to allow the addition of community-made mods (with curtain limits ofcourse) to the game? Maybe a bit like Transportfever 2 handled it?
For example custom made buildings, plants/trees, telegraph offices, curtain local industries, buildings, houses, animals and "people" Etc....
I curtainly dont want to be the one to tell someone what to do or how to handle their own projects. But since i've seen so many people within the community complain about a game with soo much potential.
One couldn't help but figure why not let them solve those things themselves, with the help of those usermade mods? Sharing them by using the steam platform itself? That way some things wont go unnoticed?
Anyway, I hope the developers are doing well🙏🏼 Hopefully this helps a bit. Im looking forward to more updates.
That's not a "dead game", it's just a normal game. The fewer live service games the better.
And no, this game is not abandoned, not until Century of Steam comes out will this discussion really start getting comments from people saying "I've moved on to CoS, so yes, this game has been abandoned." Still, even if I'm the only one going to be playing after CoS drops, I'll still play the game, no matter how lonely it gets. I only say that because I spent so long working on my four maps (one railroad for each of the 4) and especially the San Juan/Pine Valley map that has been worked on in 3 stages for nearly a year if not more.
I am okay with a game ending development if it's complete, and agree that not every game has to be a live service with never ending DLC. With that said, if Railroads Online is "complete" in a bugged and problem riddled release, then it's not unfair fo call it "abandoned" (or maybe more accurately "shovelware") at this point. More active bug fixes even if the game is feature complete would go a long way to making the game feel cared for. If the bugs aren't fixed then the game is left feeling abandoned at a roadside.
Someone mentioned above too that "it won't be abandoned until Century of Steam releases and the community stops playing." That seems like a low bar since there are already people saying they stopped playing Railroads Online to switch over to Railroader or Derail Valley already, so a large portion of the community has left the game. Steam stats further back that up.
I don't think the Railroads Online devs realize the goodwill they'd earn back by a solid effort at bug squashing though, especially since CoS won't release until 2026 at the earliest, and Railroader lacks track laying; there is a community who would come back to the game if debugging was taken more seriously. Bad or half hearted bug fixing attempts though will guarantee though many players won't return.
Goku, that's exactly what I meant!! Be transparent and inform the community.
The question is still, what's the point of the console? Which one, Steam Desk or Xbox, etc.?
Because I recently discovered at an invitation that my 10-year-old PC could no longer connect to a server. The server continued to run smoothly, and the host waited for me at the spawn point.
I'm a pioneer, starting with a 386 16 MHz, and if a game didn't work, I had to tune the PC. I'll invest now, too, but I'm wondering how this game will work on a console (XBox?) with a fully developed network and resources to run the network.
Can anyone give me some feedback on this, because I think this console focus was wasted time that could have benefited the PC version.
And now the developer (one person?) can take a vacation!!
It's almost spring anyway, and the garden is calling!!
Hallo zusammen,
anregungen hab ihr genug da braucht ihr nur aus dem vollen schöpfen an Einfällen platz bald die Chats auseinander und Bugs gibt es auch noch für dem PC zu Patchen.
I have also been playing with some friends building a nice network still having fun in the game.
We’re trying to figure out how to build a slop going up so we can have a high as hell track but that’s learning.
