Can't figure out how to open "Tools" menu
Greeting! Bought the game yesterday. Am stuck on Tutorial 5. After traveling to the forest, I'm told to open the "tools" menu. I've not yet discovered how to do so. I see what looks to be a toolbox on screen, with a mouse below it. My mouse's top two button do nothing (I have no center top button). Nor do either of the two side button. There's a hammer to right of the toolchest, with a G below it. That does nothing either. Visiting "Controls/Menus" in game doesn't help, as tools menu is not listed there. I have to be overlooking something obvious, but am at a standstill for now. Thanks in advance :)

in controls it's called open abilities menu and by default I believe that you push in the scroll wheel by default

Correct! Pushing in and holding the Middle Mouse button or Scroll Wheel opens your "Tools" menu, where you can use the logging, Theodolite, re-rail, parallel track, and destroy tools, as well as flight mode to see what the track looks like from above.

The G key opens your build menu where you can build track, industries, and props.

B opens your buy menu, where you can buy new locomotives and rolling stock (cars).

Thanks, your advice solved my "dilemma". I've owned my current mouse for years and never realized its scroll-wheel can serve as a "Center Button". As to the G key, for whatever reason pressing it didn't do anything . . . until it did. Once it began working as advertised, it's continued to work without issue.

Another issue within Tutorial 5 has cropped up. Another SNAFU, likely some misunderstanding on my part. Early in the track laying segment, we are told to enable "precise mode" (5). I press and hold the 5 key. Nothing happens. The tutorial advances no further, no matter how long I depress 5. One oddity that I notice: while the tutorial instructions equate "5" with "precise mode", the actual game-play menu equates "5" with "free mode" and shows no "precise mode". That said, whatever "5" equates to, pressing and holding it do nothing noticeable, tutorial wise. Whatever the issue is, your advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks. I tried this early on. I didn't work. After reading your response, I recalled that a keyboard numb-pad can be switched between two modes of operation. I tried again, switching to the other mode. BINGO! it works.

Don't forget you can rebind nearly all the keys and controls to whatever key suites your playstyle better.

I've got all my track laying and rotation options rebound to the number keys at he top of the keyboard (1-8), since the laptop I play on doesn't have a keypad on it.
