Manual Rail Car Mover
It would be really helpful to have a hand tool to allow moving cars by hand. You can find these online by searching for "Railcar Mover" or "Manual Rail Car Mover". It's basically a prybar that you can put under a wheel, and "nudge" the car a few inches. In many cases, thanks to low rolling resistance, it's completely possible to get a fully loaded car moving at a walking pace around a flat yard with one of these. It also appears that this tool has been around since the steam era.

Yes they are a handly thing to have, I've never heard of them being carried in a caboose, let alone a locomotive. Those things rarely left the Shops or Customer's warehouse (if they had boxcar dock doors). The only location, currently modeled in game, that might have used one would be the cattle chutes as I am not sure if they had any lateral adjustability.

For similar work the locomotive carried 6-10 foot long Oak Poles to push a car on a parallel track and a heavy chain (sometimes refered to as the `2 Men and a Boy Chain') to drag them off a siding.
