Refinery setup why its so annoying? (shunting)
so why is the refinery purposly setup in a way so you cannot unload a train without a massiv amount of shunting?

It's really not as bad as it looks. Even with Industry set to "hard", two loads of Pipes and three loads of Lumber generates plenty of oil barrels .

that doesn´t change the fact that i have to do imense amount of shunting if i drive a bigger load up there.

but yeah i think i already found other solutions i will try next time

Make a couple of side tracks and keep the flat cars on them. This way you can transfer from the main line to unload 2 cars at a time and not have to do any shunting.

idk how you mean that
the only thing i saw on youtube was taking either all 3 platforms diagonal wich potentialy makes unloading painfull as precise stopping is required as you would stop right at the corner of each platform

or litterly build the track over the platforms like for the rails

what would be good to know is if iam forced to unload from a specific side or if i can also unload from the back.

Put one empty car of the desired cargo on a dead end track and build a track as close as possible to the dead end track, drive with your train by and unload car after car on the empty car and unload this onto the Plattform, no shunting but alot of stopping, driving forward, stopping, driving forward and so on.

interressting did not know that you can do that

Or you just build the usual bs and put bridges over the Refinery.

I love making refinery drops, I built a small storage and shunting yard there and parked a Porter beyond the platform that pushes the gravity fed cars back out onto the empties track. As a solo player in sandbox mode, 2 or 3 carloads goes a long way.

Down load my Lake Valley Map Pine Valley is the same way I set it up for Zero Shunting pull in drop off drive off. all 3 drop points just go slow like normal. Just look at how I did it. Delete the map after if you like. Pinned-Map Save Area in Discussion.

Honestly, why does everyone hate shunting so much? That's railroading!

it takes so much time and often you do not have the space to build tracks and even more hell to line them up because buildings are not straight and its basicly impossible to place track in exact distance to each other wich building the tracks alone makes it hell.

besides that i think if am not mistaken that there are only 2 facilities that almost force this because of the placement to unload goods for no reason without enough space to build and lay tracks and the points above.

but yeah the game needs more stuff to do and a working mp otherwise it will get boring real quick just not enough to do or explore i really hope that changes in the future.

specialy the currenty mp stucture is bad as hell wich could it make more fun but not for too long because not enough variation.

oh man this game could profit so much from procedural generated maps that may even get infinite with random spawns in newly created chunks of production chains.

You need to figure out a way to challenge yourself. I have been playing this game since November 2021, and have started several dozen maps (Mostly Pine Valley). Prototypical 1880's American simple push-in pull-out, simple industrial trackage, no fancy loops at industries, short trains (fewer than eight cars) and have never had a problem reaching oil barrels usually within a 100 hours game time. Once you reach oil barrels, there's nothing else to do, so start a new map and do things better.

I have a gravity yard for it, but really shunting is what this game is about unless you *like* repetitive loading. The less proportion of play time spent loading the better imo, that means complicating matters.

I mean people play this type of game for a bit of immersion. You can cheese a lot of things in the game that would make it pointless otherwise.

idk why that would be a cheese pretty sure no one would be so dumb in reality so you only can unload 2 cars at once on a one way rail that litterly ends 2m after the platform and then have to somehow pull them out before you can pull the next 2 cars in
----
besides that i already found a better way i just move the track on the platforms and can come out with a 40° bend so i do not have to shunt at all.
