What is the purpose of the flange sign? Thanks.

I haven't got any historical knowledge of it's purpose, but it can be a good marker for loading.

It's a typo. It's a "Flanger" sign.

This sign would be placed some distance before switches, cross overs, or crossings, and served as an indicator for operators of flanging equipment (snow plows, flangers, or jordan spreaders) to lift their equipment so it wouldn't get snagged.

Ok, that begs the question(s) then. What is a flanger? What is a jordan spreader? Will we ever see such equipment in the game (like the plow, not expecting functionality, just something cool to add to our model railroad).

Awesome, thanks for the explanation!

Flangers will indeed be coming to the game! We have a wide variety of flangers and plows planned for the future. Gotta tackle the other stuff first though for now

And since no one has answered the question: "What is a Flanger?" A flanger is a snow plow (or attachment to one) that fits between the rails and below the rail head to dig a path for the wheel flanges. You obviously don't want this equipment digging through your switch work. BAD things happen!

The Jordon Spreader was a plow designed to spread and sculpt the ballast beside and between the rails (developed around 1905). It could also be used as a snow plow. Since it also operates below the rail head, you don't want it operating over your switch work! (See aforementioned BAD things.)

Cool, thanks for the info, no rush obviously, just curiosity. Cool to hear you guys are planning to bring us even the extraneous odds 'n ends like this.
