Flags

Since as of writing this post there is no game chat (voice or text) for multiplayer. So if people aren't using a different app like steam vc or discord i think flags would be a good way to communicate if there is currently a train blocking the line. Just the ability to put down a red or green flag would do. Maybe with a deterioration timer and a limit each player can place to prevent spam and clean up to reduce lag in case people forget to pick them up. You could probably use end of track devices as make shift flags but personally i prefer flags. Idk lemme know what you think and feel free to add on

Put down a telegraph office and a caboose next to it. The caboose can carry red (occupied), green (clear) and yellow (caution) lanterns to indicate the status of the track section. There's of course no timeout, so every engineer/brakeman of a train has to reset the occupied to clear status by jumping to the according telegraph office and back. It's a work around, but one, to get people used to set signals and to see how things may work out. It is worse than flags but already available and avoids fiddling with bumpers, so you might want to give it a try. If you find a way to make it looking good also let us know ;). (Btw. the caboose can also co- serve as direction sign by naming it accordingly)

Since I can't even get my co-players to reset switches at sidings and industries I have little hope that it might work. What works best for me and my co-players is an external chat (we use teamspeak, but discord or steam vc work also). I provide some information about it via announcement at a caboose and steam group chat.

Flags and signs and signals have been requested since forever. Keep asking though, maybe one day we'll get them.
