How to reload sand dome?

the sandhouse's choute seems to be too short to fill the porter's sand dome. what am i doing wrong?

Porter doesn't slip and needs no sand at the moment. But if you want to fill it anyway, you have to build sand house very close to tracks, and aim the spout so that sand "stream" hits an edge of the sand hatch.

wait it doesn't change traction? is that the case for all the other locomotives?

Right now, i think so because i cannot get any locomotive to wheel slip so i do not think sand matters right now. Other than the gear engines it seems that all the engines have god like perfect traction. In the real thing if u wer to slam the reg wide open with a loaded train the drivers would spin wildly out of control and make a big pretty spark show.
