Iron Works to Refinery

Has anyone laid track through the small "cut" or valley to the south end of the Iron works headed towards the smelter?

I used that valley as an exit from the Ironworks, but it doesn't go directly to the Refinery because I try to keep my grades at 2%.

RROX shows the valley as too narrow, Railroad studio gives a higher quality topographic map, I personally aim for 2-3%, though the coal mine route I have built is 4-5%.
I've spent about 50 hours developing the north and eastern portions of the map and am finally progressing to the later game industries.

It is narrow, but doable.

My steepest segment according to Railroad.Studio is 3%, and I've completed the map.

These days I'm going back through it to try even out the parallel track spacing and ease the steep parts back to 2%.

Yes you can, on one of my saves I have 3 tracks going through that valley. Depending on when you start the grade you can get to the Refinery on 2%-2.5%.
