Can't couple cars.
I can't couple anything together, how do I do it? Also Is there an easier way to build tracks it's almost impossible unless I spend 2 or 3 to even 5 hours doing so. I don't want to have wasted 30 dollars.

- Before bringing two cars close together:
- At one car end bring in first a hook (left click) and then a pin (right click);
(if there is all ready only a pin first remove it (right click) and then add the hook and the pin again).
- At the other car remove pin (right click) and/or hook (left click).
- Bring the two cars together (touching or almost touching).
- Put in a pin (right click) at the car where you did not have a hook and pin.

( If the connection is okay you hear a specific sound).

For track laying I recommend to watch some videos and use the tools. There are several good videos. Learning to lay good track will cost some time investment.

Track laying (at this time) is what takes the most time. It can take over 10 hours to get track to all loctions on the map (and be useable)

Thanks, my problem was that I had the cars too close together to get the link.

I can't drive the starter train at all without breaking the link about 5 seconds after startup. How am I gonna get all the way to the logging camp?
Start out slower.
Ya I guess that's a good idea XD. Whoops
also, try pushing the carst together before adding the pin. there is a bug where the farther away the cars are when coupled the easier it is for the link to break.

Thank you for sharing that, bendigo. Didn't know that. If that is really the case then it isn't a bug, but the simulation is even better te I thought.

There are mainly two ways to couple a train (with all the variants in between):
1. for passengers; you get a lot of force into the couplers and the whole train reacts more ore less as one wagon; if you start moving the whole train; you need a strongers engine to start;
2. for (heavy) goods; you leave a lot of 'space' between the wagons and starting the train means first getting moving the first wagon, after that the second one et cetera; you can run the train with a relatively smaller engine and a bigger risk for braking the coupler. Also you make it harder to run the train.

In this game we have at the moment the second situation. Even harder because only the engine has brakes (apart from the handbrakes).
Yes it is very much a simulation, the link and pin couplers wer know to break quite easily in real life. But the game does have issues that make it even more likey that the links will break.

I have found that the more powerful engines break the links much easier. I usually dont add more than 5% reg untill i see the last car moving.

then for braking use no more than 5% brake until all the slack is out and slowy add brake after that,

It already takes over 10 hours to get usable track to one location on the map. Connecting all locations is probably closer to 100 hours.

Useable ttrack can be layed to all locations pretty quicly. Perfectly layed and planned out track will definately take al least 50 hours, then another 50 making all the junctions perfect along with making sidings and such.

On real narrow-gauge, tracks were often laid haphazardly[commons.wikimedia.org], so spending time to build perfect rails is not realistic.

I just bought the Tier 6 ET&WNC 2-8-0. It has a coal fuel car it tows behind the engine. It is not connected, and the connection seems to be different than the link and pin. Can't seem to figure out the way to hook it up. Anyone have to do this yet that can help. All the chats I find is the basic link and pin.

Locomotives with tenders use a draw-bar which is similar to link and pin. In the game, put the draw-bar(link) in the tender and then put a pin in it. Back the locomotive to the tender so that they are touching and you should be able to find a hole in the floor board that you can put a pin in on the locomotive. Pretty much like it is done in real life.

Perfect! So I was attaching the link and pin to the engine, then trying to pin the tender. I reversed it with the link and pin on the tender and pin from the engine. That worked. I was never able to do it the other way for some reason

Thank you Yobur
