gradient %
whats the steepest gradient you can go up with a train full of 3 log carts or more.

This game has physics, so there isn't just one answer. I have been hauling around 6 cars with the starting Betsy engine without too many issues. Some of my track hits 8% grade at times, but with a running start it is fine. I think it depends mostly on how you build your track and how good you are at driving.

Depends on the train i have got away with the starting Porter on 4% grade which 5% is considered steep (like your getting into Norway track slopes territory which all mountains and fjords.) Apparently the Climax can take steeper grades because its Gear Driven but it too has a limit.

Irl, about 2% is as steep as the sand patch grade, or Donner pass, around 6% is the arosa line in Sweden. cog railways start around 7.5 and go up to 15% though there is a people mover that uses a cog railway to go vertical before going horizontal and back again.

btw, I dont suggest you get too used to the powerful porter, it will get nerfed,

If you plan on using normal locomotives, aim for 2% or less. if you plan on using climax, histler, and later on shays, go up to 4 to 5%.

the possibilities of the roads also depend on the mass and power of the locomotive. Not exceeding 5 degrees of inclination along the entire length of the track, not every locomotive can pass, and even more so with loaded wagons.
thanks for the help. ill use 4 % and test it from their.
I hauled 9 cars with up an extended 6% grade with the class 70 with a good run up. You really need to test the limitations of your particular set up, make a couple of long straight grades up the side of a mountain and find what suits you.
