She fired it up Friday evening after not playing all week and the display to our 4k TV was black. I figured it just needed a power-cycle or unplug/replug, but nothing worked.
Steam Deck thinks it's connected to an external display and the native display turns off, but the TV shows no input signal. For grins, I moved the dock from our TV to my 4k projector in the Den and same behavior.
Funny enough, I can plug the Steam Deck into my USB-C Dell dock for my work laptop and it displays to my monitor just fine.
Opened a ticket with support and am currently jumping through all the hoops Support want me to try, but I do IT support for a living and I've got pretty in-depth with my troubleshooting at this point, and nothing has worked:
- Tried multiple displays/cables, all the same No signal input behavior on the external monitor
- Tried Display Safe mode
- Developer Mode on
- Switched from Stable update channel to Beta
Since we wanted a second dock for the project anyway, I went ahead and ordered the JSAUX Gen2 dock off Amazon yesterday and got it last night, then tested this morning. Exact same behavior, so it's not the dock that is the issue.
Also for grins, I connected my laptop to the Steam Dock and it output to the external display perfectly, so I'm 100% sure this is not a dock issue.
At this point I'm convinced it's an issue with a firmware update. My wife doesn't remember getting a notification on an update but not sure she would have noticed. =) I did update it to latest when I set it up to her the first week of January, so whatever the change was it was recent.
I see a lot of threads on dock issues, but at least in my case this doesn't look like a dock issue at all.
I think I'll start a thread and see if we can get some more eyes on this to see if we can determine a fix.
Using JSAUX dock.
Edit: I've found a workaround, with it working in Desktop mode you can launch Steam from there and then use Big Picture mode, then it works as if it was in gaming mode.
Editedit: Just need to figure out how to connect a controller.
