I recall reading that sparring with critters yields techniques, which seemed true beating on Eagles for sure. But is it true for every animal type? That didn't seem to be the case when I played, but it can't hurt to ask.

I'm especially curious when it comes to unique monsters, such as lizards or dragons. (How amusing it would be to learn the Shoryuken from Street Fighter by wailing on a dragon aptly named Shen Long.)

Oh, and what do Eagles actually do? The birds eye just seems to show the map... which you can do by, er, looking at the map.

Eagle, Monkey, Horse, Snake all have koves I think and you can get these bh just fighting the wild non tamed ones too.

I think thr eagle track feature lets you follow them on the world map? I'm honestly not too sure myself, I only tamed an eagle in the hopes you could fly on it's back haha.

You can, in fact, ride your eagle in the sky.

Special monsters (lizards, dragons, and giant toads) are non-tamable (without a mod) and do not have any special skills. They are the best source of meat, though.

Dragons(with mod) can fly, therefore it is one of the best taxi/mount pet(screw horses), you can fly anywhere without jumping, running or jumping on water, just plain old, sit - fly - dismount.
Not to mention you can dump thousands of resources in their backpack.
