As for the other part, I've never found a way to change my own profession to anything but a sect leader so I can only offer a sort-of workaround. If you have a free character slot, make a character (you can just delete them when you're done) then get them to be sworn brother/sister with the one you want to change, then you can talk to them and make them change professions.
Well, that's what I did with the NPCs.
Perhaps you should just try to convince her to change her profession (using another character).
As for the last question, without spoilers, just become a champion in the tournament)
...
Okay, just kidding, the option to use a second character unlocks when you lose to Huanmos' servants in the north of the map (without starting a normal turn-based battle, this will just do a "return to karma" - seriously, without preparation they will just one-shot you on the second or third turn and the slots will not open).
Your character will be behind bars and your “boss” will split your soul, which will open up other slots for characters.
As for a character becoming the child of another character, you may need "Noble Scion" karma, provided that she (mother) is still alive.
P.S. I hope I translated it well (-_-')
P.P.S Oh, I forgot to say that a playable character can still have one parent, the other will be Unknown, or am I just that “lucky”...
