Controller issue

I'm using a ps5 controller, or I would be, but for whatever reason, this game and ONLY this game, thinks I am player 2...even playing in a one player game. Never had anything like this issue, I've re-installed drivers, disabled/enabled/tried the different steam options for controllers, nothing works. It's as if the game is forcing KB/M to be player 1 and there's nothing I can do to change it. Any tips OTHER than get a 360 controller? I've used a ps5 controller for everything since they came out and never had an issue.

Update, I went out and got a regular old 360 controller. Still doesn't work, game still thinks the controller is player 2 even in a solo game. New controller (just like the ps5 one) works flawlessly with any other game. If it helps I also have a Razer Huntsman V2 for a keyboard, but haven't had any issues with it.

Basically the only thing I can do with the controller is navigate the main menu. If I try to create a new game, the controller will not let me pick a character, but I can still navigate back with it. If I start a game using KB/M, the only time the controller works at all is if I use KB/M to go into PLAYER 2 controls, and then it magically works, but only to change the controls for PLAYER 2. As soon as I leave the PLAYER 2 controls, it no longer works.

I would like to add that I'm having the same proble as Malvonius, my xbox 360 controller doesn't get picked up in the game. No matter what I try. For the record it works perfectly in others games I have, but it doesn't get picked up by this game.

Also having the same issue with Wireless Xbox One S controllers, both with dongle and over bluetooth. Controller works fine up until the character selection, but the "A" button at least doesn't work at all after that. Haven't gotten past the initial dialogue to test the other buttons.

@wrcusic I am having this issue now with my controller I got with my Xbox Series X, have you solved the problem yet? Just bought the game...

If you have a PS5 controller have you tried going to Controller settings in the Steam settings and in preferences turning on player slot LED to see if the controller is actually 1st player? The LED should light up in the middle.

After a while of experimenting i found a way to get around the problem. Start the game with the controller off, turn it on and it works just fine.
