Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance

Should you buy items from the shops?
Playing through this game because I remember it fondly from my young days on the ps2, I'm playing the dwarf right now and I've got a fine warhammer with 2-12 damage and +1 padded gear except for my chest, should I bother buying the gear in the shops like the scale armor or the fire weapons i'm planning on running pure 2h with my dwarf.

Also any tips for the dwarf? I've gone for the attack speed bonus ability and thats lasted me fine but when I reached the bugbears and especially the slimes I've found myself chugging hp potions like crazy now, I figure hp regen is a good choice for my next passive.

Circle strafe the bugbears and use a bow against the slimes. I buy gear in shops because you really don't get any high quality drops until endgame for some reason.

Ahh ok, I'm now at the thieves area of the game, my dwarf is doing pretty good so far once I bought the scale chest, I had a lot of gold so I decided to buy the scale boots, gloves, and helmet too along with the fire axe (I feel like axes compliment dwarfs better plus if I buy the 2h frost sword I can't afford more armor)

The scale chestpiece feels like it did way more for me as the zombies would just not hit me most of the time, that still happens sometimes with the thieves with my full scale armor but they do hit me more often and they hit hard af. Should I have invested in the frost sword instead of the axe as the highest dps weapon in the act shop?

Don't go too crazy on spending all your gold because you do get better weapons and armour in subsequent acts so try to only buy stuff when you've got a surplus of cash. I like two handed weapons on the dwarf because it does more damage and you can spec into 'improved block' so you don't have to use a shield.

So is the best go with the dwarf to just spec straight into his damage and attack speed? I've been putting a few points into his intestinal fortitude to try and get some hp regen out of him.

I like to spec into damage but it's up to you how you want to do it.

Yes buy from the shop. Remember that the items for sale are always the same, every playthrough, they are not random.

Until the very end of the game, in general the WEAPONS in the shop are superior to anything that you will find in the game, with the exception of the Morning Star of Disruption you get in the first crypts. At that point in the game, this mace will be the best thing you've seen so far. But that's it. After that, and until the Onyx Tower, the best weapons come from the SHOP.

Armour is kind of similar but there is a much higher chance that a really nice +x armour will drop in the world and be better than the shop items.

As you progress to each new Act, you will encounter a new merchant with new items for sale. Each time this happens, try to only buy the very best weapon the shop has to offer for that Act. Just keep what you have if you can get by with it, until you can afford the top item.

Healing and Mana potions are abundant and cheap and the Dwarf can carry huge amounts of them, so do not waste any points in the HP or Mana boost perks and his perks to increase the regen rate of these things are also useless. Take Improved Block the moment you can buy a 2-hander that is better than the Morningstar of Disruption. Then all points should go into his abilities that increase his damage and attack speed. One point in the whirlwind attack is worth it because it scales with your weapon, but not the hammer-based ground slam attack, its damage doesn't scale and hence it is useless.
