Container on top of espresso machine

I bought a higher end espresso machine, and it has a container on top. The only thing it would let me put into it was whole beans, and now I can't figure out how to interact with the container to get those beans out again to grind them.

i'm having the same issue, just upgraded and I can put whole coffee beans into it but that's it. can't figure out how to remove them either, let alone grind them.

It automatically grinds them when you try to make coffee.

I considered that possibility, but that was not my experience. If I put an empty portafiller in there, it just told me I needed beans.
