Sea Hounds unlimited?

Are they like seagulls as in that their population can't be harmed by killing them? Or do I have to worry about murdering my supply?

And ... did my eyes deceive me that one time or can they really drop metal scrap when cut up? It seems logical if they swollowed it ... but if they are unlimited, does that mean I have a potential source of eternal scrap?

they drop metal scraps occasionally, I played till day 130, they keep attacking no matter what, you get a regular fat supply

Seahounds will never stop coming to the island if you have the perk (like the mermaid).
Killing many of them will temporary lower their population though, decreasing your chances of encountering while their numbers recover.

Seahounds have a chance to drop metal scrap and pearls too, so yes potentially you could get scrap for ever too. Although if what you want is getting infinite scrap with a perk I would go with the drones. :)
