Trapping
Most of my time has been playing as The Hunter, so i decided to give the Farmer a try. She can't fight for sh*t lol. So hows trapping work? Only bait i know about are fish bits and rotten scraps, doe those work to catch birds n goats? I've set up 2 log trap in areas ive seen boars n goats, should i set up more? how many traps are too many? how important is bait? also trying to catch a few things alive, so ive got a snare for the birds, and i figure i need the cage trap for the goats

Bait is very important for all kinds of traps; unbaited traps have a very low catch probability. Pick a bait that has enough durability to last until the trap triggers, since if it rots before then it will reset the timer. For birds, seeds work well since they do not spoil. Yams or dried meat/fish is good for boars. You can catch both boars and goats alive in pit traps (although there is only a chance they will be alive); I think cage traps are most suited to macaques.

It's hard to say how many traps is "too many", since what actually matters is the population of each species; the fewer animals there are of that species, the slower they will regenerate. It is even possible to drive a species extinct. On the other hand, if the population is high, you can catch them more frequently without driving the population down. So try to maintain a sense of how often you encounter each species, and adjust your trapping setup accordingly: if there don't seem to be many around, deconstruct or disable the relevant trap types.

Note that it is pretty easy to train the spearfighting skill; make a rustic spear, and train with it once or twice a day. It's a good way to kill time during a storm or before bed.
